Seasonal Employment at the Cemetery Administration

Do you enjoy working with others while being drawn to creating beautiful and well-maintained green spaces? Would you like to spend your workdays outdoors in peaceful environments where people can remember, reflect, and find calm? Then perhaps a seasonal position at the Cemetery Administration is something for you. For the summer season, we need to strengthen our team with careful and positive individuals who want to help us keep our cemeteries in top condition! Here you will have the opportunity to perform work that is meaningful to many!

One of your colleagues is Richard, who has worked at the Cemetery Administration for 13 seasons:

"The best part of my job is that I get to take care of our beautiful environments and meet our visitors' gratitude for taking care of our cemeteries. I also appreciate being part of the churches' history. We are many employees here, and we work in different teams that collaborate closely and perform daily tasks in the cemeteries together. I look forward to welcoming a bunch of new positive colleagues for the upcoming season! You will come to a multifaceted workplace where life, death, joy, and sorrow are a natural part of our everyday life. We have meaningful tasks, and we are well taken care of at work.”

About the Position

Together with your team, you will work outdoors in both sun and rain. All employees start from Hovdestalund and work at one of Västerås' 23 cemeteries. As a grounds worker at the Cemetery Administration, you contribute to creating a peaceful and well-maintained environment for visitors. The work is varied and includes both plant care and maintenance of paths and graves. Of course, we ensure that you have all the clothing and equipment you need. You will also receive a proper introduction and overview of the machines you will use. Since we care about our employees' health, we focus heavily on ergonomics and using the body correctly. All employees working at least three months are also offered wellness benefits. Working hours are weekdays from 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM.

Some examples of tasks include:

  • Mowing, trimming, and edging
  • Pruning bushes and trees
  • Leaf removal in the fall
  • Planting seasonal flowers and perennials, often at memorial sites and graves
  • Weeding, watering, and fertilizing
  • Basic maintenance of graves, such as removing wilted flowers and wreaths and cleaning graves as needed

Qualifications

To thrive in this role, we believe you are a careful person who takes responsibility for your tasks and can easily adapt to changing circumstances. You work well with others and are attentive and accommodating in your interactions. Finally, we believe you are secure, stable, and self-aware. It is advantageous if you have experience in cemetery work, gardening, or have a green space education. You also have good physical work capacity as the job involves heavier lifting and demanding tasks. A driver's license (B) is a requirement. You also have good knowledge of the Swedish language, both spoken and written.

We offer three different types of employment. You can either work for 8 months starting in April/May, 6 months starting in April/May, or 10 weeks starting in June.

The selection process will be ongoing, and positions may be filled before the application deadline, so do not wait to apply!
