Environmental Officer at the Swedish Armed Forces Technical School (FMTS)

The Swedish Armed Forces Technical School (FMTS) is currently in an expansive growth phase where environmental and health protection is an important part of the development. Therefore, the Staff Unit at FMTS is looking for an engaged Environmental Officer who, together with us, sees safety and the environment as obvious future issues.

Main Responsibilities

The Environmental Officer monitors applicable decisions according to environmental legislation and ensures compliance. They will also undergo internal land damage regulation training in the FM and be prepared to coordinate cases within this area. The following main responsibilities are also included:

  • handles cases within the Environmental Code area and works with environmental goals.
  • supports and advises managers at various levels in developing documentation and proposing necessary measures.
  • participates in inspection visits, conducts environmental risk analyses, environmental audits, and provides internal environmental training.
  • takes part in exercises and continuously monitors operations through self-control.
  • provides opinions to other authorities within the agency.
  • participates in the development, monitoring, and revision of the unit's environmental management system according to applicable permits and ISO 14001:2015.
  • is prepared to participate in the department's other cases/tasks.

Qualifications

REQUIREMENTS

  • A minimum of 180 credits (120 ECTS) in academic education with an environmental focus or other relevant education in natural sciences, environmental law, legal studies, or equivalent as assessed by the employer.
  • Knowledge of environmental science and environmental legislation, as well as application regarding environmentally hazardous activities and supervision.
  • Driver's license class B.
  • Good ability to express yourself verbally and in writing in Swedish and English.

Personal Qualities

We are looking for an engaged employee who is structured and confident in the role of a presenting specialist and can guide managers at various levels in their decision-making. Good pedagogical skills are required as the work involves educating and informing staff groups at different levels. The job requires a high degree of independence, the ability to take initiatives, and to work for development and improvement in your area of responsibility. Good collaboration skills, being unpretentious, attentive, and service-oriented are qualities we highly value. Therefore, significant importance will be placed on personal suitability.

Meritorious

Work experience in qualified environmental work, preferably from the environmental protection area, and experience in government work/public administration within municipal or state administration is meritorious. Experience in working with permitted environmentally hazardous activities and environmental management systems. Trained internal environmental auditor (ISO). Experience from the Swedish Armed Forces or other authorities within the defense sector is also meritorious.

Other

Permanent employment, civilian, full-time. The employment begins with a probationary period of 6 months. Salary and benefits according to collective agreements; any salary claims should be stated in the application. Start date by agreement. The place of employment is Halmstad. Travel is included in the position. Since the employment entails military placement in the wartime organization, participation in combat training, including training in basic soldier skills, is required. Physical training is a natural part of the job, and good opportunities for physical training are offered.
