Job Advertisement: The Swedish Environmental Protection Agency is looking for a new colleague

The Swedish Environmental Protection Agency coordinates efforts for a good living environment together with others. With us, you can contribute to the important work of achieving our vision - to create a good living environment for humans and all other living beings, now and for future generations!

We are looking for a new colleague

We are seeking a new colleague who, together with other employees, wants to develop the work of preserving valuable nature! The Protected Areas Unit works on establishing national parks, guiding county administrative boards in the establishment of nature reserves, in the designation and assessment of Natura 2000, and in working with national interests for nature conservation.

Your tasks

The position involves a new task within the unit. You will contribute to the implementation of the EU's Nature Restoration Regulation. Primarily, it will involve coordinating national mapping of habitat types and their status in protected areas. Other national mapping assignments, as well as work to analyze where in the landscape different interventions should be made for the implementation of the Nature Restoration Regulation and other nature conservation directives may also be relevant.

You will coordinate the development of knowledge bases about habitat types and their conditions. You will specify what information is needed from national mappings so that areas with high natural values (habitat types, natural forests, valuable areas, etc.) are known, that the information can serve as a basis for planning interventions (protection and restoration), and that results and effects of implemented interventions can be monitored.

You will support the work of using geodata and statistics and develop effective IT support for mapping and reporting within protected areas (Natura 2000 areas, nature reserves, and national parks). You will contribute to developing methods and working practices as well as data structures that streamline the work with area protection, management, and restoration within the framework of the Nature Restoration Regulation and for environmental goals.

Other tasks may also be included in the position.

Your qualifications

Meritorious

  • You have worked with comprehensive mappings or biological data at a landscape scale.
  • You have knowledge of or have worked with national statistics or national reporting.
  • You have worked with the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency or other landscape-wide mappings based on given standards or follow-ups (Natura 2000, NVR, NNK, THUF, NILS, RT, NMD, VMI, TUVA).
  • You have expertise in remote sensing, e.g., image interpretation of natural types.
  • You have worked with the management or development of IT support with geodata.
  • You have worked on the development or updating of conservation plans for Natura 2000 areas.

Personal qualities

We place great importance on personal qualities. You who are applying should have a good ability to collaborate with external actors as well as with a diversity of colleagues with different perspectives and competencies. You are responsible, have analytical skills, and a systematic approach to work. You are innovative and promote organizational development by drawing conclusions and experiences from your work and feeding them back into the development of subject areas. You have the ability to choose appropriate and effective communication channels and methods to achieve the desired results.
