Job Advertisement: Positions in Area Protection

We are looking for two new colleagues who, together with other employees, want to develop the work of protecting valuable nature! The Area Protection Unit works on establishing national parks, guiding county administrative boards in the formation of nature reserves, identifying and assessing Natura 2000 areas, and working with national interests for nature conservation.
Your Responsibilities
You will contribute to the implementation of the EU's Nature Restoration Regulation, particularly regarding the protection of valuable habitats. This includes guiding and consulting with county administrative boards on the establishment of nature reserves and contributing to the development of our work on protecting valuable nature, including Natura 2000 and the new approach focusing on voluntary formal protection.
One of the positions will have a stronger focus on Natura 2000-related issues, including guidance on and participation in assessments and reporting. This position will also focus on guidance regarding habitat types, including mapping their occurrence and condition.
One of the positions may also develop into a subject matter specialist for our digital work support. In this role, you will assist in monitoring and developing area protection work through analyses of needs and reports from the system, as well as being a link between operations and IT support.
Work with national interests for nature conservation will be included in one of the positions.
Your Qualifications
Requirements
- You have a relevant scientific degree at the university or college level with a focus on biology/ecology or equivalent competence.
- One of the positions requires at least five years of experience in the establishment of nature reserves focusing on terrestrial environments. The other position requires at least two years of experience in formal area protection.
- At least one of the positions requires very good knowledge of working with Natura 2000.
- You express yourself well in both spoken and written Swedish.
- For one of the positions, it is required to be able to use English as a working language.
- You have good knowledge and experience of working with Chapter 7 of the Environmental Code and related legal provisions.
- You have very good knowledge of Sweden's nature in general and protected areas in particular.
- You have experience working with Vic Natur/DINO or the ability to quickly learn this.
Meritorious
- You have experience in strategic work with area protection.
- You have knowledge of and experience in nature inventories and nature value assessments.
- You have experience in guidance work within nature conservation.
- You have experience working with the management and administration of habitat types and species in protected areas with a focus on Natura 2000.
- You have experience working with national interests for nature conservation.
- You have experience in developing and revising management plans and regulations for protected areas.
- You have experience working with exemptions and permit assessments in protected areas.

About the Employment
The employment is a permanent full-time position that begins with a six-month probationary period. The position is located in Östersund or Stockholm.
For this position, there may be good opportunities for remote work.
The start date for one position is as soon as possible by agreement, and for the other position from April 1, 2026. We apply individual salary setting.
Travel within Sweden may occur, and travel outside Sweden may also occur.
