Nurses Wanted at Skaraborg Regiment P 4

Skaraborg Regiment P 4 is seeking part-time nurses to staff existing medical groups and unit positions.

As a nurse in our combat units, you play an incredibly important role in helping us accomplish our assigned tasks, and you will also belong to an authority that is in strong growth and in need of your specific skills.

The position is a permanent employment with occasional service according to the Officers Ordinance §20. This means that you are employed in your regular civilian job but will also serve occasionally in the Armed Forces. You will be assigned to us and are expected to be active at the unit during missions/exercises and various types of unit activities.

A prerequisite for employment is that you can be assigned to the Armed Forces and do not have any other military assignment.

Main Responsibilities

As a nurse, you will be responsible for care based on the patient's individual needs and sometimes complex injuries (which involve a mix of primary care and severe trauma) under pressured working conditions where the work environment can be challenging both physically and mentally. The work is conducted pre-hospital and thus requires field readiness and the ability to be outdoors for extended periods under primitive conditions. The tasks also involve a significant amount of material service to create conditions for qualified care. Furthermore, you will work alongside various personnel categories, which requires being attentive so that you can solve tasks together.

Qualifications

• Licensed nurse with relevant specialty degree and at least two years of work experience in this field
• Knowledge of basic principles of healthcare hygiene
• Good ability to express yourself verbally and in writing in English and Swedish
• Fully healthy and meets the Armed Forces' requirements in FMFysS
• Approved enlistment by the National Service and Assessment Agency
• Driver's license B
• Assignable in the Armed Forces

Personal Qualities

We are looking for someone who is unpretentious yet confident in their abilities. You are flexible, allowing you to quickly adapt to different situations, environments, and work constellations. The position as licensed personnel in a combat unit means that you will largely also act as a soldier when you take on your military role. Your ability to collaborate is important as you will share the situation of other soldiers around the clock, in all weather conditions. You want to teach and convey knowledge—this will be useful both when you act as an instructor, mentor soldiers, and perform your military duties. You strive for continuous development in your professional role and work to ensure that the unit can accomplish its assigned tasks. Great emphasis will be placed on personal suitability.

Desirable Qualifications

• Completed military service, Basic Military Training (GMU), Basic Soldier Training (GSU), or other Swedish military training deemed suitable by the employer
• Previous military service abroad
• Completed courses in “Definitive Surgical Trauma Care” (DSTC), “Trauma Nursing Core Course” (TNCC), “Battlefield Advanced Trauma Care” (BATLS), “Prehospital Trauma Life Support” (PHTLS), or equivalent courses
• Training or experience in teaching others
• Experience in trauma care
• Experience in pre-hospital and/or disaster work

Other Information

Since you are employed according to the Officers Ordinance §20, you will need to enlist and also be approved by the National Service and Assessment Agency to proceed in the hiring process. You will also have physical requirements according to FM FysS to ensure you can handle field service. If you do not have a previous military background, you will also need to complete an adapted basic soldier training during the probationary period so that you can take the right actions when required by the position.

Skaraborg Regiment, P 4 operates from Älvdalen in the north to Remmene in the south. The leadership is located in Skövde, where most of the conscript training takes place. The regiment's task is to recruit and train conscripts and personnel for two armored battalions, a heavy transport company, and a brigade reconnaissance company. P 4 is also responsible for a brigade staff that, in times of crisis and war, will lead large parts of the army's units.
