Region Dalarna is looking for a library consultant to be placed in the Främjande and Strategy unit, which is part of the Culture and Education Administration. Främjande and Strategy is based on Region Dalarna's culture and education plan as well as the regional library plan. The operations support, promote, and develop activities and quality within the library, performing arts, and visual arts fields, and collaborate and work strategically for good dialogue with the free cultural life, civil society, cultural institutions, municipalities, and national actors. Dalabiblioteken is a collaboration between Dalarna's fifteen public libraries and Region Dalarna aimed at providing residents with equal library services through a joint system, web, and transport. Collaboration should make the libraries perceived as a single library while strengthening development, sustainable resource use, and staff competence. As a library consultant, you will work to strengthen and develop Dalabiblioteken in changing needs and conditions, which can shape and change the content of the position over time. This position has a particular focus on media and information literacy (MIK) and, to a lesser extent, a specific focus on games as a cultural form. The assignment has a clear orientation towards digital accessibility and participation, as well as promoting the libraries' democratic role.

Library Consultant with a focus on MIK, Falun Job Responsibilities

You will work both strategically and operationally and have a central role in developing public library activities in Dalarna. The assignment includes:

• initiating, driving, and participating in developing projects, processes, and networks within MIK, such as source criticism, digital participation, information understanding, and competence development regarding AI
• supporting the libraries' democratic mission by contributing to counteracting misinformation, promoting critical thinking, and creating inclusive and accessible knowledge environments
• strengthening the promotional and strategic work with game culture, particularly the libraries' work with games and game culture
• being supportive, advisory, and competence-enhancing towards all public libraries and other relevant actors in Dalarna by arranging network meetings, seminars, and other competence-enhancing efforts
• representing Region Dalarna in various contexts at local, regional, and national levels
• collaborating with institutions, organizations, civil society, and national actors within the library, education, and cultural sectors
• monitoring MIK, digital development, and cultural policy issues as well as the significance of game culture and AI development for library operations

In the role of library consultant, you need to be independent and confident in taking responsibility for your tasks, driving processes forward, and making decisions within given frameworks. You express yourself clearly and attentively and adapt your message according to the audience and context. You are used to working with collaboration as a method and build trusting relationships, both internally and externally, work systematically and carefully with planning, follow-up, and methodical working methods. You show initiative and thrive in a development-oriented role where you contribute ideas and perspectives that strengthen the libraries' development in a changing world. The work involves the freedom to plan and evaluate efforts within your area of responsibility. The position requires physical presence at the workplace; remote agreements are not applicable. The assignment covers all of Dalarna and involves travel both within and outside the county. Evening and weekend work may occur.

Education

Requirements:

• Academic education in library and information science or other education/experience that the employer deems equivalent

Experience

Requirements:

• Good knowledge of media and information literacy (MIK)
• Good knowledge of the Swedish library and cultural sector
• Experience in leading, driving, or coordinating projects, processes, or networks
• Good ability to express yourself in speech and writing
• Driver's license B

Meritorious:

• Experience working in public libraries or library development
• Experience working with games and game culture in libraries, schools, or other cultural activities
• Knowledge of artificial intelligence and its significance for library and information dissemination
• Experience working in a politically governed organization, such as a municipality, region, or government agency
• Communication skills, for example, in target group work, education, or marketing
• Experience in regional development work or other strategic activities
