Are you an inventive workshop mechanic with the ability to transform vague ideas into functional components, machines, and facilities? Would you enjoy working in an environment where only the width and height of the workshop door set the limits for what we build? Then you might be the one we are looking for!

At RISE's department for agriculture and circular technology in Uppsala, there is an innovation workshop where we design and build everything from prototypes for inventors to experimental equipment for researchers and entire pilot plants for testing new processes. This is an operation primarily aimed at external customers but is also used for workshop services internally when we need custom-made equipment. Most often, it involves machines, components, and facilities for biological and biochemical processes as well as agriculture-related applications, but constructions in other areas such as the space industry and medical technology also occur. Our ambition is to help the customer with idea development, design, construction, control systems, and testing/evaluation.

Feel free to read more about the innovation workshop at:

About the role We are looking for someone who is very inventive and a bit of a practical jack-of-all-trades who can transform others' theoretical ideas and vague sketches into real objects as well as functional machines and processes. In the role of workshop/trial technician, you will face all sorts of challenging design, construction, and fieldwork where it will be your job to solve practical problems. The basic requirement is that you have very good skills in workshop work such as welding (TIG, MIG – black steel, stainless steel, and aluminum), metalworking (lathe and milling), bending, cutting machining, etc. To complement the existing staff, you should also master CAD/CAM and CNC machines. Especially TIG welding will be an important skill that you must be interested in and able to master. You will work closely with researchers and external customers to create things that no one has done before, and therefore you must be very service-oriented and have a positive solution-oriented attitude based on the fundamental belief that nothing is impossible. An important quality we value is the ability to plan your own work both practically and administratively and then have the discipline to follow the plan from start to finish.

In addition to workshop work, some trial technician duties are also included in the job. You will work with the practical implementation of research and development projects, often through the operation and maintenance of pilot plants and experimental equipment as well as sampling and documenting results in the field.

The position is at RISE's office in Uppsala in the Ultuna area, and the job requires physical presence full-time. Please note that this position may require a security clearance in the future.

Requirements:

  • Practical high school education or post-secondary workshop education or agricultural education
