The Department of Law is one of the larger departments at Stockholm University.

The department has around 170 employees and 5,500 students. Over 70 teachers are fully engaged in teaching and conducting the research that the education is based on. About thirty professors with various legal science orientations are present at the department, creating a dynamic environment with top-class research and a strong international profile.

Subject/Subject Description

European Law with a focus on constitutional and institutional EU law

Job Responsibilities

The job responsibilities include teaching, research, and administration as well as contacts with the surrounding community. The position includes teaching for 70 percent of the annual working time. Teaching includes lectures, seminars, and other interactive course elements, examinations, course responsibility, course administration, supervision, as well as development and updating of teaching materials. The teaching will primarily be in European law, but teaching in other subjects may also be included.

The job responsibilities also include applying for external research funding and keeping up with developments in the subject area and societal developments that are relevant to the teacher's work at the university.

The position is full-time. The position concerns research in the field of European law with a focus on constitutional EU law. Teaching is typically not only in the form of classroom teaching but also through course leadership, course development, course responsibility, examinations, supervision of thesis work, etc.

The teaching part of the job mainly involves teaching and participating in planning the introductory course in European law as well as the subject's special courses and master's program.

Eligibility Requirements

To be eligible for employment as a university lecturer, according to Chapter 4, Section 4 of the Higher Education Ordinance, one must have obtained a doctoral degree in law or have equivalent scientific competence, and have demonstrated pedagogical skills.

A requirement for the position is good knowledge of both Swedish and English, and the person offered the position must be able to teach in both languages within two years from the start of employment.

As a general eligibility requirement, the applicant must have both the ability to collaborate and the competence and suitability otherwise needed to fulfill the job responsibilities.

Assessment Criteria

Particular and equal weight is given to scientific and pedagogical skills. Administrative ability and the ability to collaborate with the surrounding community are also valued. Other skills and experiences that are relevant to the position and the job responsibilities are also counted as merits.

In assessing scientific competence, the scientific quality of research in constitutional and institutional EU law is primarily considered, but experience in other areas of European law is meritorious. The scope of the research, mainly regarding depth and breadth, is also significant. Furthermore, the ability to plan, initiate, lead, and develop research and doctoral education, as well as the ability to obtain funding for research in competition, is taken into account. The ability to interact both within the scientific community and with the surrounding society is also valued.

In assessing pedagogical competence, pedagogical quality is primarily considered. The scope of teaching is also significant. Particular weight is given to experience in teaching European law, but teaching in other legal science subjects is also meritorious. Furthermore, the ability to plan, initiate, lead, and develop teaching, as well as the ability to connect teaching to research, is taken into account. The ability to interact on higher education pedagogical issues with actors inside and outside the university is also included in pedagogical competence.

Administrative skills and experience, as well as other skills and experiences that are relevant to the position and the job responsibilities, are also counted as merits. Such skills can be demonstrated, for example, through the ability for overarching operational planning, skills in leading operations and personnel, and through the ability to collaborate. The ability to collaborate with the surrounding community and to inform about research and development work is also a merit.

Sufficient computer skills to handle the various systems used in teaching are a requirement.
