Librarian at Tjärnaskolan

Tjärnaskolan is a primary school with approximately 330 students from preschool class to grade 6. We believe in working as a flexible organization to meet each student. We have an inclusive foundation which means that learning occurs in a social context and the classroom is the student's natural arena. All support functions work together with teachers both in the classroom and in the after-school program, such as mentors, IT educators, counselors, speech therapists, Swedish as a second language teachers, special teachers, and special educators. We have a staff group that possesses a broad knowledge of children's various abilities, differences, and needs. Support and help are always available, including guidance, language development methods, and visual support. A system for co-planning exists, as well as professional development and peer mentoring.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Work together with teachers to ensure that each student develops a love for reading and good reading skills, and together with the school's social team, work preventively, promotively, and remedially with issues included in the school's value work.

As a school librarian, you complement the teachers' subject knowledge and subject didactic competence by using your knowledge of reading, language development, information retrieval, and source criticism both in the library and out in classrooms and in the after-school program. In your work, you contribute to increased goal fulfillment for our students. In your role as a school librarian, you will strengthen students' language skills, lead and participate in reading promotion projects, and enhance students' digital and traditional reading comprehension. You should also be able to organize cultural activities, be involved in the school's value work, and mentor and provide training for other staff at the school. The role also includes purchasing literature, weeding, and classification work. In your role as a school librarian, you are an important resource in the school's systematic quality work.

The role also includes working with students socially to support and motivate them, both at the group and individual level. You will be part of the student health work and closely collaborate with the school's counselor, social team, and safety team. Together, you are responsible for the school's safety work aimed at making the school safer and more enjoyable for all staff and students. Together with the teachers, you will design and develop the school's learning environment to create a safe and stimulating environment that contributes to students' learning and development.

You will work preventively and promote issues included in the school's value work. Within the framework of your assignment, you will have contact with students in classrooms, the library, the after-school program, and the school's common areas such as hallways, cafeteria, and playground. You will also work on creating networks with students' guardians.

QUALIFICATIONS

For this position, you are required to have a university degree as a librarian (180 credits). It is advantageous if you have another education that aligns with the school's mission and that the employer deems suitable for the assignment. You must master the Swedish language at a high level to communicate appropriately in various situations. You have experience working in schools as you need an understanding of the assignment and the organization's challenges and needs. If you also have experience working in a multicultural school environment, it is advantageous but not a requirement.

To be the person we are looking for, you need to have a positive view of people with high positive expectations of children and adults. You should be a responsible, flexible, and solution-focused person, well-versed in the school's governing documents, and have a good ability to collaborate with colleagues, students, and guardians.

In connection with the interview, you as a candidate need to present proof of citizenship in Sweden/EU/EES or a valid work permit.
