About us Maritime System Innovation is part of the Maritime department at the Security and Transport division of RISE. We work with future sustainable transport concepts focusing on efficiency, environment, and safety. By delivering stable, innovative, and user-friendly solutions in areas such as sustainable transport & logistics and remotely operated vessels, you will contribute to innovation development with significant societal benefits. We are a team of about 25 employees working on sustainable development through research and innovation projects. We are a mix of developers, project managers, researchers, and engineers. We are located in Gothenburg, Lund, Borås, and Stockholm. Most of those working on development projects live in Gothenburg, and therefore that will be your place of work, at least you should be prepared to be there at least a few days a week.

About the role In this role, you will develop demonstration applications in close collaboration with partners from both industry and authorities. The collaboration mainly occurs with Swedish and Nordic actors with project partners from the international arena. The work is project-based and involves the iterative development of concept applications in dialogue with partners and researchers.

The projects' focus varies and can encompass everything from overarching logistics in shipping, aviation, and rail to domain-specific applications, such as remotely operated vessels. The role suits you if you enjoy being at the forefront of digital development and have a strong interest in exploring and further developing knowledge in data processing, management, and visualization. You will also work on:

  • Responsible for the operation and further development of prototype applications
  • Ensuring that data flows and processing nodes function stably and efficiently
  • Collaborate with the team to integrate new features and improvements
  • Coordinate technical collaborations within different parts of RISE, primarily to leverage applied research in digitalization for the benefit of shipping (and multimodal transport)
  • Contribute to an innovative and agile development environment where new ideas and technologies are tested

Who are you? You likely have a relevant college or university degree in computer science, system development, or similar, but it is not a requirement. Previous experience in research projects, innovation-driven development environments, or working in agile teams is a plus. Maritime domain knowledge is also an advantage, which may come from previous work with vessel operations, ocean-based infrastructure, ports, navigation, or maritime digitalization.

Experience with the following technologies is required:

  • Version control – practical experience with Git (GitHub/GitLab)
  • Programming and system development – experience with Python, Java, JavaScript, and SQL
  • Experience with big data tools
  • Data processing and pipelines – experience working with data pipelines and orchestration tools (Kafka is an advantage)
  • Databases
  • Containerization and cloud technologies – basic understanding of Docker and Kubernetes
  • Frontend and visualization – experience with ReactJS
  • Data analysis
  • Experience with AIS, the shipping transponder system

You thrive in a varied, analytical, and technically oriented work environment. You have a good ability to immerse yourself in new issues, are goal-oriented, and can balance a structured and innovative approach. Furthermore, you are curious, independent, and proactive. Since the role involves collaboration with both internal and external actors, good communication skills in Swedish and English are an advantage. Are we a good match? RISE offers a dynamic and innovative work environment where you can help solve future challenges using new information technology. The role involves working on multiple projects, where you will have the opportunity to test and develop solutions within a research-driven approach. Here you can be part of the future's technical development and contribute to sustainable development for Swedish organizations.

This is not a traditional developer role – you will work in an environment where the requirements for results are constantly changing, which means you are always learning new things. You thrive in an experimental environment where you can test and be creative in your solutions. RISE has expanded significantly in recent years within the maritime segment, providing great opportunities for development and influencing the company's future. Welcome with your application! If this sounds interesting and you want to know more, please contact the recruiting manager for Maritime Innovation, Andreas Bach, +46 10 516 54 11. The application deadline is May 2, and selection and interviews will take place continuously during and after the application period. Our union representatives are: Ingemar Petermann, SACO, +46 10 228 41 22 and Linda Ikatti, Unionen, +46 10 516 51 61.
