Evidence-based practice / Theory of Science
Subject Description
Evidence-based practice as a field has been shaped by a number of actors who have developed methods to determine the best available knowledge and sometimes also the best ways to implement evidence-based interventions. The Master's program in Evidence-based Practice: Practice, Theory, Context (H2EVI, 60/120 credits) is designed to provide competence in a variety of these methods and tools. Questions of interest include what is meant by scientific knowledge and what significance expertise, standards, and various forms of professional and other practices have for knowledge formation at the intersection of academic disciplines, authorities, organizations, and other societal actors. The education also supports students in using the theory of science to problematize the use of these methods and tools in various contexts.
The theory of science includes teaching and research on the social, political, historical, and cultural contexts of science, with theoretical and methodological resources often drawn from post-Kuhnian theory of science and the research field of science and technology studies (STS).
