Job Advertisement: Teaching Assistant at the Department of Information Technology

The Department of Information Technology holds a leading position in both research and education at all levels.

We are currently the third largest department at Uppsala University with over 350 employees, including 120 teachers and 120 doctoral students. Approximately 5000 undergraduate students take one or more courses at the department each year. We are now looking for students who want to work as teaching assistants in periods 1 and 2.

Job Responsibilities

Participation in teaching for one or more of the listed courses below. Participation in teaching includes, for example, attending labs and lectures, grading assignments, answering students' questions, and supervising student projects. Courses marked SVE are taught in Swedish, and those marked ENG are taught in English. Applications are received through Uppsala University's recruitment system. Period 1:

  • 1RT001 Mathematical Modeling of Football (ENG)
  • 1RT002 Process Control (ENG)
  • 1RT490 Control Engineering I (SVE) (Note that course 1RT490 is offered in both periods 1 and 2. Priority may be given to applicants who can teach in both periods)
  • 1RT495 Control Engineering II (ENG)
  • 1RT496 Control Engineering III (ENG)
  • 1RT705 Advanced Probabilistic Machine Learning (ENG)
  • 1RT730 Large Language Models and Social Consequences of Artificial Intelligence (ENG)
  • 1RT890 Empirical Modeling/1RT885 System Identification (ENG)

Period 2:

  • 1RT242 Applied System Analysis (SVE)
  • 1RT490 Control Engineering I (SVE) (Note that course 1RT490 is offered in both periods 1 and 2. Priority may be given to applicants who can teach in both periods)
  • 1RT700 Statistical Machine Learning (ENG)

If you have not been a teaching assistant before, the job responsibilities also include a mandatory introduction day.

Qualifications

To be employed as a teaching assistant, it is required that you are admitted to undergraduate or graduate education. Employment as a teaching assistant is regulated by the Higher Education Ordinance Chapter 5. The applicant must demonstrate good academic results, particularly in the subject area of the course they will assist with, as well as very good knowledge of Swedish (only for courses taught in Swedish) and English, both spoken and written.

Desirable/meritorious

Previous experience in participating in teaching relevant courses at the university level is particularly meritorious. Experience with relevant IT systems (Studium) is desirable, as well as good knowledge of Uppsala University's organization.

Application Procedure

The application should include a letter where the applicant briefly describes their experience in teaching, language skills, and knowledge (e.g., transcripts). The application should also specify which courses the applicant is interested in and an estimate of the number of hours they wish to work (per course and period, with the total hours summing to 30, 45, 60, 90, or 120). Please also attach your registration certificate.

About the Employment

The employment is temporary, until November 16, 2025, or February 1, 2026, depending on which period(s) you work, according to HF Chapter 5 § 12. The extent is between 3 and 23%. Start dates are August 18, 2025, or October 27, 2025, depending on which period(s) you work, or as agreed. Work location: Uppsala.
