Chemistry Department at Stockholm University
Chemikum, with over 200 employees, is one of the largest institutions at Stockholm University.
Research at Chemikum spans all areas of chemistry, including analytical chemistry, physical chemistry, materials chemistry, inorganic and structural chemistry, as well as organic chemistry. The research projects range from theory to experiments, from pure basic research to more applied projects often focusing on sustainable chemistry, as well as advanced analytical methods for chemicals and materials. Chemikum has a well-developed research infrastructure with a variety of equipment and qualified support from staff researchers.
Chemikum is also responsible for undergraduate education in chemistry and three master's programs: analytical chemistry, sustainable chemistry, and organic chemistry. Doctoral education is conducted in five areas: analytical chemistry, physical chemistry, materials chemistry, inorganic chemistry, and organic chemistry.

Subject Description
Materials chemistry with a focus on organic materials includes the design, synthesis, processing, characterization, and modeling of polymer-based materials and organic-inorganic hybrid materials.
Job Responsibilities

Eligibility Requirements
Eligible for appointment as an assistant professor is someone who has obtained a doctoral degree or has a foreign degree that is deemed equivalent to a doctoral degree. Primarily, the candidate should have obtained such a degree no more than seven years before the application deadline. However, those who obtained such a degree earlier may also be considered if there are special reasons. Special reasons refer to leave due to illness, parental leave, or other similar circumstances.
All teaching positions at Stockholm University require that the applicant has the ability to collaborate and is otherwise suitable to perform the tasks.
Assessment Criteria
Particular importance is placed on scientific competence. Some importance is also placed on pedagogical competence.
The scientific competence will primarily be assessed within the subject area of the position.
About the Position
The position of assistant professor is part of the university's career path ("tenure track") and is regulated by the Higher Education Ordinance (SFS 2024:673).
For this position, the assistant professor is employed indefinitely, but for a maximum of six years. The employment can be extended to a maximum of eight years if there are special reasons. Special reasons may include illness or parental leave.
After application and review, the assistant professor may be promoted to a permanent position as a university lecturer. Specific criteria for promotion from assistant professor to university lecturer are established by the Faculty Board for Natural Sciences.
Applications for promotion to university lecturer must be submitted to the faculty no later than nine months before the appointment as assistant professor expires.
