Södertörn University is an institution in Stockholm that educates, researches, and collaborates for sustainable societal development. The teacher education program at Södertörn University offers programs intended for various areas of operation, from preschool to high school. Two programs lead to preschool teacher qualifications, five to primary teacher qualifications, and two to subject teacher qualifications. The teacher education program has two profile areas: interculturality and education. More information can be found here (#).

The teacher education at Södertörn University consists of two departments, one for pedagogy and didactics and one for teacher education, aesthetic learning processes, and critical Roma studies. You will be employed in the department of teacher education, aesthetic learning processes, and critical Roma studies, primarily teaching in the subject teacher education courses (including workplace-based education (VFU)), but also in other teacher education programs.

Job Responsibilities

The job responsibilities include, among other things, teaching and collaborating with colleagues from different parts of the university. The teaching primarily concerns the subject teacher education courses such as history with a didactic focus and teaching in workplace-based education (VFU). Teaching in other teacher education programs may also occur. Administrative tasks such as course responsibility, reporting of grades, and attendance are part of the job. The responsibilities may also include covering for a colleague at short notice.

Södertörn University has a government assignment directed towards the national minority language Romani chib and will start a preschool teacher education program focused on national minorities and Romani chib in HT25. For this reason, we see a need for competencies regarding the history, rights, and languages of national minorities in combination with the other competencies required for the position.

Teaching will be conducted in Swedish.

Qualifications

To be eligible for employment as a lecturer in teacher education, one must have a university degree with a focus on teacher education, such as educational science, and have demonstrated pedagogical skills and completed higher education pedagogical training of at least 7.5 credits or have equivalent competence.

In addition, good knowledge of national minorities and their rights is required.

The qualifications also include professional skills that are significant for the subject matter and job responsibilities, such as extensive experience in teaching at the upper secondary school level and current experience in teacher education. The applicant must also possess the personal abilities necessary to perform the position well and represent the university in a way that benefits the organization.

For this position, the applicant must be proficient in teaching in Swedish.

Pedagogical skills are demonstrated through solid and current knowledge relevant to the position, a self-reflective approach to students' learning and experiences, as well as the own teaching role, and through documented and well-rated experience in planning, implementing, and developing education. Pedagogical experience may have been gained through work in higher education or other activities.

Assessment Criteria

For this position, the following assessment criteria have also been established (in order of priority). The following points must be documented.

  • Pedagogical skills at the university level in teacher education and in at least one other school form
  • Teacher qualification in a subject/field relevant to the announcement
  • Collaboration skills - Very good ability to cooperate
  • Historical didactic competence
  • Good knowledge of national minorities and their rights
  • Knowledge of various aesthetic expressions

The employment is temporary, 100% full-time, lasting for 12 months or during the period 2025-07-01 – 2026-06-31. Start date according to agreement.
