Student Coordinators for Vattenhallen Science Center

Lund University was founded in 1666 and is consistently ranked as one of the world's leading universities. It has around 47,000 students and more than 8,800 employees in Lund, Helsingborg, and Malmö. We unite in our efforts to understand, explain, and improve our world and the conditions of humanity.

Lund University welcomes applicants from diverse backgrounds and experiences. Equality, equal opportunities, and diversity are fundamental principles for all parts of our operations.

Workplace Description

Vattenhallen Science Center is part of Lund University’s Faculty of Engineering and operates in collaboration with the Faculty of Science.

Vattenhallen is a joyful interactive meeting place for the public, schools, the university, and businesses, offering a variety of activities in its premises with exhibitions on current technological developments and scientific research.

To show our young visitors that they can pursue education in science, the operations are based on staff-intensive activities where student guides meet the visitors. Vattenhallen has become a great success, attracting over 50,000 visitors per year from the entire region. Approximately 120 school students (ages 3-18) visit Vattenhallen each day, 4 students do internships each week, teachers come for professional development, companies and organizations hold meetings, kick-offs, competitions, and parties, and on weekends and school breaks, the premises are filled with families eager to experiment. We have a minibus, ExperimentExpressen, that travels to schools, libraries, and festivals, and we are establishing a science center operation at the university's campus in Helsingborg.

Vattenhallen currently consists of 15 employees, but also has about 50 student guides who assist the visitors.

Job Responsibilities and Duties

We are looking for 3-4 student coordinators, one focused on school activities in Vattenhallen's premises in Lund, one for our school activities at Campus Helsingborg, and one focused on the operations of ExperimentExpressen.

As a student coordinator, you will work alongside the educators in Vattenhallen's school visit operations and ExperimentExpressen, and you will be responsible for coordinating our group of student guides. You will participate in planning the week's visits, help prepare and organize materials and equipment, welcome visitors, guide experiments, and ensure that everything is tidied up after visits. You will also be responsible for maintaining order in the premises, storage rooms, and the minibus, as well as noting when new materials need to be ordered and if any experiment stations are out of order. Additionally, you will help engage students who are doing their internship week at Vattenhallen.

Since Vattenhallen is also open on weekends and often has events in the evenings, the position may involve some weekend and evening work.

Qualifications

Requirements for the position include:

  • Previous experience as a student guide at Vattenhallen for at least one term
  • Previous experience as a student guide with ExperimentExpressen for at least one term (applicable for the student coordinator for ExperimentExpressen)
  • Must be a student or recent graduate from Lund University
  • Good knowledge of mathematics, natural sciences, and programming
  • Good language skills in Swedish and English, both spoken and written
  • Strong collaborative skills and a strong sense of service
  • Responsible and self-motivated
  • Outgoing, able to easily connect with others, and possess good communication skills

Desirable qualifications include:

  • Driving license for a manual transmission vehicle
  • Previous experience in relevant administrative and service-related work

Consideration will be given to how the applicant's experience and skills are assessed to complement and strengthen the educational and administrative work within Vattenhallen and contribute to its future development.

How to Apply

Applications should include a CV and a personal letter explaining why you are interested in the position and how it matches your qualifications. Applications should also include a diploma or equivalent, as well as any other supporting documents (copies of grades, references, recommendation letters, etc.).

Welcome with your application!
