Translation and Interpretation Institute at Stockholm University
The Translation and Interpretation Institute at the Department of Swedish and Multilingualism offers undergraduate, master's, and doctoral programs in translation and interpretation.
Research at the institute focuses on interaction in interpreted conversations, cognitive aspects of the translation and interpretation process, and written interpretation. Research is also conducted on the translation of fiction and non-fiction, translation sociological issues, as well as media translation and subtitling. Other parts of the department conduct research and education in the fields of Swedish and Nordic languages, Swedish as a second language, and bilingualism.

Translation Studies with a focus on interpretation, especially sign language interpretation
Job Responsibilities
The responsibilities include teaching and examination in courses on sign language interpretation and deafblind interpretation, as well as supervising theses; additionally, independent research in the field of translation studies is expected. The applicant is expected to participate in both pedagogical development work and the internal work of the institute, as well as actively seek research funding. Administrative tasks may also be included in the position.
Eligibility Requirements
Eligible for appointment as a university lecturer in translation studies with a focus on interpretation, especially sign language interpretation, is one who has demonstrated pedagogical skills, has obtained a PhD in translation studies, social work, linguistics, bilingualism, or another language subject with a relevant focus for the position, or has equivalent scientific competence. Good knowledge of Swedish and Swedish sign language is required. A general eligibility requirement is to have both a good ability to collaborate and the ability and suitability otherwise required to perform the duties.
Assessment Criteria
In the appointment process, special and equal weight is given to documented scientific competence and pedagogical competence. Teaching in theoretical aspects of sign language interpretation is particularly meritorious. Thesis supervision is also meritorious. Training in interpreting and experience working as a sign language and deafblind interpreter are also meritorious. Competence must be documented in a way that allows for the assessment of quality in both scientific and pedagogical activities. Additionally, well-documented good collaborative skills, administrative skills, and the ability to collaborate with the surrounding community through information, research, and development work will be considered.
Higher education pedagogical training or equivalent knowledge acquired in other ways is meritorious. An applicant who lacks higher education pedagogical training of at least 15 credits and who is not deemed to have acquired equivalent knowledge in other ways must undergo such training during the first two years of employment. Applicants who believe they have equivalent knowledge without having undergone formal training should explain in their application how the knowledge was acquired and why it corresponds to the competence that formal education provides.
About the Position
The position is permanent and full-time, with a start date to be agreed upon, preliminarily January 1, 2026. A six-month probationary period may apply.
The position includes competence and research time according to the applicable terms agreement.
