Systems Biology of Cardiometabolic Diseases.

Subject Description

Cardiometabolic diseases (CMD) are progressive and multifactorial, requiring stage-specific biomarkers for early detection. This project aims to develop data-driven methods to identify progressive CMD biomarkers and potential therapeutic targets.

Responsibilities

You will primarily focus on conducting high-quality research. You will lead a project analyzing multi-omic data from blood and affected tissues in clinical patients and contribute to ongoing research in the field. Responsibilities include data quality control and analysis, dissemination of research results through scientific articles and conference presentations, and supervision of students within the group. There is an opportunity to develop and broaden the project's focus within its given framework depending on your expertise and research interests. You are also expected to collaborate on projects with other group members, contribute to administrative tasks such as data collection and ethics applications, and support the overall work of the research group. This position is part of the national DDLS program, which gives you the opportunity to become part of a network of the next generation of data-driven life sciences researchers.

Eligibility

  • PhD in bioinformatics, biostatistics, computational biology, computer science, machine learning, molecular biology, or a related field is required.
  • Ability to generate ideas and conduct independent research is crucial.
  • Strong computational background and ability to work with UNIX and independently program in Python or R is required (Python is preferred).
  • Experience in analyzing and visualizing large datasets is expected.
  • Fluent English in both spoken and written form is required.

Merits:

  • Experience working with noisy data and managing multiple confounding factors.
  • Experience applying machine learning and/or network analysis to complex datasets.
  • Experience using version control (e.g., Git) and working with reproducible science.
  • Experience working with high-performance data infrastructure (HPC).
  • Experience in omics analysis (e.g., transcriptomics, metabolomics) beyond statistical inference.
