About us

Region Sörmland operates, together with the regions of Uppsala, Västmanland, and Värmland, an emergency call center in its own right. The healthcare emergency call center is responsible for medical prioritization and directing ambulance resources within the four regions of Sörmland, Uppsala, Västmanland, and Värmland. Together, we serve approximately 1,200,000 residents. The centers are located in Uppsala, Västerås, Eskilstuna, and Karlstad. Since 2018, we are also present in the Västra Götaland region. Thus, the healthcare emergency call center serves about a quarter of Sweden's population.

In Region Sörmland, the emergency call center belongs to the ambulance organization. The work with us is an administrative nursing job without physical strain. We care about our employees' well-being, and in the employee survey of 2024, 100% of employees recommend their workplace to others.

Your tasks

As a nurse, you will handle calls and assist those who call 112. You create a picture of what has happened and act accordingly based on the circumstances. Each call results in a medical assessment, prioritization, and action. Your task is to quickly assess acute events and, through a structured approach, identify ambulance care needs. You do this with the help of a unique medical decision support system and your own competence.

Collaboration with SOS Alarm, rescue services, police, and other healthcare providers is also part of the job, as well as referrals to the appropriate level of care. Your primary tools are your own competence, phone, computer, and video assessments of the seeking citizen. You will also have support from your colleagues with different competencies.

Your qualifications

We are looking for a licensed nurse with at least two years of experience. You should be proactive, solution-focused, and passionate about meeting patients where they are. You must be able to give instructions in acute medical situations and be able to think on your feet. The work requires attentiveness and decision-making ability to make decisions based on the information in the call with the seeking individual. We place great emphasis on personal qualities such as clear communication, stability, structure, and trustworthiness.

The tasks require you to master the Swedish language fully in both speech and writing and have good knowledge of English. Multilingualism and further education are advantageous. Personal suitability is highly valued. It is a plus if you have experience in emergency care and/or telephone counseling.

Employment form

We can offer you a permanent position with a start date according to agreement. The position is full-time and involves day/evening/night and weekend work, two out of five weekends. You will receive an introductory training at the start of your employment with guidance and an individual onboarding plan tailored to your needs.
