University Lecturer in Visual Arts at Dalarna University

The subject of Visual Arts at Dalarna University belongs to the Department of Culture and Society and offers courses within the programs for primary and subject teachers as well as standalone courses. All courses include elements of visual expression, art theory, and subject didactics. The Visual Arts subject is also a resource for other programs at Dalarna University. Your Workday as a University Lecturer

You will work with teaching in undergraduate education. Dalarna University is at the forefront of development regarding digital support and pedagogy related to online learning, and teaching is conducted both on campus and online. An important part of the role is also to continuously work on the development of courses and education as a course leader and teaching lecturer. Responsibilities include professional development in line with the research environment of teacher education and contributing in various ways to the development of the Visual Arts subject. Administrative tasks are included in the position.

Are You the Person We Are Looking For?

We are looking for someone who has a master's degree and a teaching degree with a focus on Visual Arts, as well as several years of professional experience from primary and/or secondary school. The position requires good knowledge of Swedish and English in both spoken and written form, good administrative skills, and documented good collaboration abilities. Strong knowledge of materials and techniques in Visual Arts and the use of digital tools is also required.

Desirable qualifications include completed pedagogical training that qualifies for higher education, experience in teaching at higher education, experience in online teaching, and competence in ceramics, photography, and moving images. Experience in leading development projects within the Visual Arts field and supervising teacher students during practical training in Visual Arts is also advantageous.

As we place great importance on pedagogical skills, the applicant who does not already have qualifying pedagogical training is expected to acquire this competence within two years from the start of employment.

Eligibility for Employment as a Teacher

Eligibility for employment as a teacher is specified in the Higher Education Ordinance and in Dalarna University's employment regulations.

Assessment Criteria

The university will consider the candidate who, after a qualitative overall assessment, is deemed to have the best conditions to fulfill the tasks of the position.

In assessing pedagogical skills, emphasis will be placed on:

• The ability to create conditions for student learning and to generate engagement and interest in the subject
• Experience in teaching the subject
• Experience with various teaching forms and the ability to adapt teaching to different groups and group sizes
• Demonstrated pedagogical skill through varied contributions to education, such as planning, implementation, and evaluation that have contributed to the development of pedagogical activities
• Higher education pedagogical training, particularly qualifying pedagogical training corresponding to SUHF's recommendations is of importance
• Other pedagogical qualifications such as pedagogical development projects, educational material production, etc.

The Employment

The position is a permanent employment, full-time, starting in August 2025. A probationary period may apply. Dalarna University operates at two locations. The placement for this position is currently in Falun, but some work may also occur in Borlänge.
