At the neonatal department of Gävle Hospital, premature infants from week 29 and sick newborns are cared for along with their families. Here, the length of stay can vary from a few hours to a month. We work family-centered, where all care planning and nursing actions are performed in consultation with the child's guardians. We have close collaboration with women's healthcare, which means we co-care for new mothers and their newborns who require neonatal expertise.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

At the neonatal department, we work to avoid all types of separation between the child and mother during the newborn period. The mother and partner are the primary caregivers (skin-to-skin care) for the newborn. We follow WHO's ten steps that promote breastfeeding. The children cared for here require specific nursing care. They may also need monitoring and special medical equipment, such as CPAP treatment or high-flow nasal cannula.

As a nurse, you will work with:

  • standard tasks on the ward such as rounds, sampling, examinations, etc.
  • acute care, with readiness to respond to alarms in delivery/operation
  • planning and documentation of the child's care time
  • supporting guardians to understand the little child's needs and signals, and to become confident and independent in caring for their child.

With us, you will receive:

  • ten weeks of introduction with a mentor where we weave in both practical and theoretical training
  • your own mentor throughout the first year to create security in learning and development
  • education and development according to the neonatal care training plan.

The work involves shift work in 3 shifts. Day/evening/night and weekends.

Are you a newly graduated nurse? Then we offer the opportunity to start the employment as a third nurse, with responsibilities at the level of a nursing assistant, during the summer and then step into your role as a nurse with introduction in the fall. In the role of a nurse with us, you should:
