JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Do you want to help increase students' access to staffed school libraries? Then this might be the position for you.

Nygårdsskolan is a K-9 school with about 600 students and approximately 65 educators and other staff, as part of the Southwest area 8, Gothenburg's school administration.

We have a beautiful school with fresh facilities, lovely schoolyards, and colleagues who are passionate about their students and teaching. Our students are fantastic, interested, and motivated to study, and they receive great support in their studies from engaged guardians. The school is beautifully located in Billdal near the sea and has its own kitchen that prepares fantastic food. The sea, the ice rink, and Billdals Park are just nearby, and it is easy to reach from central Gothenburg by bike, bus, or car.

You will work on developing students' media and information literacy and digital competence, as well as strengthening students' reading engagement and reading skills. You will promote reading both in collaboration with the school's staff and independently. You will plan and implement teaching and guide students both in the library and in the classroom.

You will be responsible for the school library room and work to ensure that the library is a learning environment that is socially, pedagogically, and physically accessible. You will ensure that the school library is an active part of the school's values work and democratic mission. Your tasks will include media planning and purchasing, circulation, and book management. You will have the opportunity to participate in professional development initiatives aimed at developing school library operations. Together with school librarian colleagues, you will be part of a network for collegial learning.

As a school librarian, you will work directly under the principal and collaborate with the educators' teams. Together with networks and through your own school area, there are opportunities for development.

We work based on the school administration's plan for school libraries 2021-2025, where the school library has a clear pedagogical function whose main task is to collaborate with educators to strengthen students' language skills and digital competence and to create a school library for all. The focus is on increasing students' achievement, well-being, and identity formation.

QUALIFICATIONS

To fit this role, you need to have a strong commitment to children and young people and their learning. You also have a strong ambition to translate research and in-depth subject knowledge into effective school library practice.

Requirements

We are looking for someone with a bachelor's or master's degree in library and information science. You have high digital competence relevant to the tasks. You have a positive and inclusive attitude towards students and colleagues and a good ability to create relationships and convey knowledge. We would also like you to have experience working with children's and youth literature.

We are looking for someone who has a good ability to work collaboratively with others and create good relationships with both students and colleagues. You create conditions for learning to occur and encourage dialogue, participation, and engagement. Furthermore, you take initiative and responsibility for moving work forward, whether you are working alone or together with others. Finally, you contribute new ideas and perspectives and often see more than one possible solution in various situations.
