The Department of Languages and Literatures is the largest department of the Faculty of Humanities, with 16 different languages, about 90 employees, approximately 1,090 full-time students, and an annual turnover of just over 110 million. The department's research addresses the world's languages and literatures from a broad contextualization and a wide range of theoretical foundations and specific applications. The activities are conducted within the Faculty of Humanities in modern premises centrally located near Götaplatsen.

Subject Description
The subject of English is oriented towards linguistics and literary studies with examination rights at all levels, including doctoral education. In addition to independent courses, the subject is part of various educational programs at the department, such as Language and Intercultural Communication, Teacher Education Program, and Nordic Master's Program for Language Teachers. The subject offers both campus courses and online courses and aims to expand online teaching and blended learning within campus courses. Research in English is primarily conducted within linguistics and literary studies. Furthermore, the subject's research is also included in the department's interdisciplinary research areas.
Job Responsibilities
The position includes teaching, supervision, and examination in English with a focus on linguistics at both undergraduate and advanced levels, both within independent courses (e.g., grammar, phonetics, academic communication, language history) and within the Teacher Education Program (e.g., Practicum and language didactics) on both campus and online. Some courses within the subject are contrastive English-Swedish, so the ability to teach Swedish is an advantage.
Course development and administrative tasks are also included, such as course responsibility and work with the university's learning platform. Evening teaching may occur, as well as teaching and examination in interdisciplinary courses and programs. Research is also included in the position.
Other tasks may also be included in the position, such as administrative duties and development work. The holder of the position is expected to actively participate in the department's development and work environment efforts, such as workplace meetings and other internal meetings and conferences. The majority of the work should be performed on-site at the University of Gothenburg, and the holder of the position is expected to be present at the department and participate in the ongoing work on-site.
Work within the subject is conducted in a teaching team, and the successful candidate is expected to contribute constructively in a collegial spirit, both to the subject and to the entire department. The applicant is expected to be present at the department and participate in the daily work on-site.
