PhD Candidate in Next Generation Thin Film Lasers
We harness the power of over 40,000 students and staff. Students who provide hope for the future. Staff who contribute every day to Linköping University tackling the challenges of our time. Our values are based on credibility, trust, and security. By being brave, thinking freely, and innovating, we together create a better future through both large and small actions. Welcome to apply for a job with us!
Your Responsibilities
The project, funded by the ERC Consolidator Grant, aims to develop a new generation of laser diodes based on metal halide perovskites.
Semiconductors based on organometallic halide perovskites have been successfully introduced in solar cells where they have achieved efficiencies of over 25%. They also exhibit enormous potential for the design of new functional materials and components with novel properties. For example, they display strong electroluminescence and tunable color, making them promising candidates for efficient laser diodes.
You are expected to work on one of the following tasks: 1, develop perovskite LEDs that can operate under high current densities (towards lasing actions); 2, design and develop activity for lasing actions; 3, understand the physics and/or photophysics of perovskite laser diodes.
As a PhD candidate, you will engage in your doctoral education and research project. Your work may also include teaching or participating in other departmental duties, up to 20% of full-time.
Your Qualifications
You have completed a master’s degree in physics, chemistry, materials science, or a related field, or completed courses totaling at least 240 ECTS credits, of which at least 60 ECTS credits at the advanced level in physics, chemistry, materials science, or a related field, or otherwise acquired equivalent knowledge.
Qualified candidates are expected to:
- Independently conduct research activities
- Work collaboratively and openly as part of a team
- Serve as a source of information and advice to other group members on scientific protocols and experimental techniques
- Initiate research-related tasks
- Acquire new knowledge
- Have previous experimental experience related to the job description above – particularly related to physics and/or material/device development.
Please include a statement of intent that outlines: 1. Why you want to pursue a PhD 2. Why you are interested in this position, and 3. Why you believe you are qualified for this position.
Your Workplace
The group led by Professor Feng Gao focuses on energy materials produced from solution, primarily semiconducting perovskites and organic semiconductors. The group belongs to the Department of Electronic and Photonic Materials, where we develop photonic and electronic materials for energy conversion and storage.
About the Employment
Upon taking up the position, you will be admitted to the doctoral program. Read more about the respective faculty's doctoral education here.
The position is limited to four years full-time. You will initially be employed for one year, and thereafter the employment will be renewed for a maximum of two years at a time, based on the achieved study plan. Extension of employment up to five years may occur based on the degree of teaching and departmental duties. In special cases, further extension may be possible.
Start date by agreement.
Salary and Benefits
The PhD salary is regulated according to a locally agreed salary scale. Read more about employee benefits here.
