to apply for the job

We are currently looking for a substitute teacher in painting at our school. You who are applying should be able to start with relatively short notice already in March/April. You do not need to have teaching experience, although it is an advantage.

Distra Gymnasium is a high school in Örnsberg. The school is one of two schools in Stockholm City that has received industry recommendations for its high quality in school-based construction programs. We work closely with unions and employee organizations and have collective agreements.

We have a local agreement on staggered working hours that gives you a total of more than 11 weeks off, similar to a holiday service. We are looking for someone who wants to help develop and teach in the school's Construction and Civil Engineering program. You will have a great opportunity to influence and shape the education together with our dedicated principal and teaching colleagues. We prefer that you are a certified teacher. However, this is not a requirement as you will work alongside experienced, certified vocational teachers in painting.

We rank high in Stockholm regarding satisfied students and teachers according to the School Inspectorate's surveys in 2015 and 2017. Our focus is on well-being and safety, where everyone should feel seen and be able to speak up. We have small teaching groups with about 15 students per group. This gives us greater opportunities to help each student reach their goals.

We offer education in Construction and Civil Engineering with a focus on painting, sheet metal, and building construction. Since autumn 2016, we also offer education in the Business and Administration program with a focus on trade and service. We have national programs and introductory training in the aforementioned areas. In the first six years of our operation, about 200 students per year have studied with us.

You do not need to have worked in the school world before, but you need to have good professional skills and a good rapport with young people. You will work alongside certified teachers and guide them in construction. There is also the opportunity to teach in woodworking, tile laying, masonry, flooring, or concrete. If you have experience in teaching or are a certified teacher, it is an advantage. Together, you are a driven and passionate team that has a great opportunity to develop and leave your mark on the education.

Our students study practical subjects for a period of 3 weeks and then theoretical subjects for the same number of weeks. Many national and introductory students take several courses together. You who are applying should be open to individual solutions for several students at the same time.

In a vocational education, most of our students have applied based on a profession, and therein lies your challenge: to dare to challenge the students in your subjects so that they both increase their interest and understand why it is of utmost importance to succeed in your subjects. You must be able to see opportunities in each individual and want to find ways that suit even those who have given up.

Our students should feel safe and welcome in a creative and developing learning environment.

If you also have experience working with students who have a neuropsychiatric disability, this is an advantage.

Does this sound like you? Then send in an application.
