Job Description

As a museum curator at Bildmuseet, you will initiate, curate, project manage, and implement exhibitions and other public programs and projects at the museum in consultation with the museum's director and artistic leader. Your work will include staff management, budget work, seeking external funding, and text and catalog production. In addition to exhibition production, you will also be responsible for initiating and conducting program activities at the museum, including leading tours and public discussions as part of this program. Research collaboration may be relevant for certain projects.

Qualifications

We are looking for someone with a university degree in art history, curatorial training, or equivalent, and experience curating exhibitions and project management in exhibition production from one or more art institutions focusing on contemporary art. You should have an international profile and curatorial practice with your own relevant international networks. You are accustomed to independently initiating, driving, and implementing exhibition projects and have experience with budget work and seeking external funding.

You have excellent communication skills and express yourself well in both spoken and written forms within the visual arts field, and you are experienced in discussing art with an audience.

As a curator, you will work against deadlines, which requires resilience and flexibility, as well as the ability to plan and organize your work satisfactorily. You also have good collaborative skills.

Other Desired Qualifications

A doctoral degree in art history, curatorial practice, or equivalent is an advantage.

Additional Information

A probationary period of 6 months may apply. The workplace is located in Umeå, and the working languages are Swedish and English. Fully English-speaking employees are offered a Swedish course for staff at Umeå University. Start date is 2025-10-01 or by agreement.
