The Operations and Maintenance Department is the part of the Urban Development Office responsible for the maintenance of streets, traffic environments, squares, parks, and nature areas, as well as trams, school transport, and transport services for people with disabilities. The department is facing an exciting development where a newly created management level in the form of Area Managers will be appointed. We are therefore looking for an Area Manager for Public Space who wants to help shape future working methods, where trust-based leadership, clear direction, and strong collaboration are central success factors.

The Public Space area is responsible for the administration, operation, and development of the municipality's land and public spaces, such as parks, nature areas, and streets. The Public Space area is organized into three units with respective unit managers: Land Administration, Urban Environment and Operations, and Reinvestment and Strategy.

Your responsibilities

As the Area Manager for Public Space, you have overall responsibility for operations, economy, and results within your area. You lead through others and drive both operational delivery and long-term development.

You are part of central forums within the urban development process and are responsible for translating political priorities into concrete operations. The role involves a strong focus on strategic work, coordination, and creating good collaboration within the organization.

Your duties include, among other things:

• Lead and develop managers, as well as lead the area's management group
• Have overall responsibility for operations, budget, work environment, and personnel
• Drive strategic issues and development work within the area
• Contribute to steering groups and forums related to urban development
• Ensure staffing, long-term planning, and efficient coordination
• Handle committee cases and translate political decisions into operations
• Strengthen collaboration within the department and with other parts of the organization

Who are you?

You have a university degree in a field relevant to the role, or alternatively, work experience that the employer considers equivalent. It is an advantage if you have completed leadership training.

You have experience of leadership in a larger organization, preferably within the public sector, and you have worked with change management and in a client role regarding contracting and consultancy services. Furthermore, you are used to working proactively and with efficient coordination in prioritized issues and assignments, and you have experience of the urban development process. Experience of leading through other managers is an advantage, as is experience of contract issues.

You have good knowledge of business management and change work, as well as systematic work environment work. You also have knowledge of contracting law and business relations, and you can interpret contracts and relevant laws. The role also requires good knowledge of the Public Procurement Act (LOU) as well as investments within municipal operations.

You are a secure and clear leader who has the ability to both lead, coach, and develop your employees. You have good organizational understanding and the ability to drive development with a clear strategic perspective.

Furthermore, you are collaboration-oriented and contribute to a good team climate while being reliable, having good self-awareness, and maintaining focus even in pressured situations.
