The goal is to increase maritime safety and accessibility for shipping with the customer in focus, while minimizing the impact on the marine environment.
Job Responsibilities
As a Canal Operator, you play a crucial role in maintaining service and safety. Your main tasks include mooring ships in locks and guiding vessels along the Trollhätte Canal, which is physically demanding and partly heavy work. You operate bridges and locks and communicate with ship traffic as well as recreational boats via VHF. Reporting technical faults along the waterway is part of the job. Additionally, the work involves general maintenance of the area and our vehicles. During winter, tasks include snow clearing, ice breaking, and de-icing of locks. You may also learn the two functions of Canal Control Center Operator and Lock Master on an as-needed basis. These tasks require precision, orderliness, and a strong understanding of the operations. You will have many phone contacts with your team as well as external customers. The work is performed at irregular times, both day and night.
Who are you?
We are looking for you who have at least a high school diploma and a B driving license. You are computer literate and handle various IT systems with ease. You also have good ability to express yourself well both verbally and in writing, in both Swedish and English.
It is an advantage if you have education and/or work experience within shipping and hold a VHF/SRC certificate or equivalent. Education and/or work experience within logistics is also an advantage.
We place great importance on your personal qualities. The role requires you to be responsible, stress-resistant, and able to prioritize even when conditions change. Since you are responsible for the operations together with a team, teamwork and solution-focus are very important qualities.
