Sweden's Most Beautiful Workplace Seeks a Boatman (Fixed-Term Employment on an As-Needed Basis) located in the Pilot Transport Areas of Mid or Stockholm

Working as a Boatman

As a Boatman, you are responsible for carrying out sea transport, and where applicable, land transport as well as transport on or over ice. The work includes the maintenance and upkeep of the Swedish Transport Administration's property and equipment. The role involves participating in search and rescue missions, for which we offer specific further training. Operations run 24/7, year-round. As a temporary hourly worker, you need to be flexible and able to step in when needed, which may include daytime, evenings, and weekends.

The pilot boat is manned by two Boatmen, one being the master and the other the helmsman/deckhand. To serve as a helmsman, a minimum qualification of Ship's Officer Class VII is required, along with internal training. To serve as a master, a minimum qualification of Ship's Officer Class VI is required, along with internal training.

Who are you?

You must meet the following requirements:

  • Minimum qualification: Ship's Officer Class VII (not restricted to inland waters)
  • Minimum certification: Engine Officer Class VIII
  • Basic Safety Certificate (Basic Safety)
  • Minimum ROC Certificate
  • Medical certificate for seafarers (deck service in unrestricted waters)
  • Category B driver's license (manual transmission vehicle)
  • Good skills in reading and speaking Swedish and English
  • Good skills in working with modern maintenance systems

Furthermore, you must have good skills in operating smaller vessels (between approx. 10–40 meters in length) and possess strong abilities in performing technical service and maintenance.

You see what needs to be done, take initiative, and take responsibility for your tasks. You are flexible, solution-oriented, and have good communication skills.

The position may require Swedish citizenship. Security clearance with register check may be conducted before an employment offer is made. You must verify qualifications, certificates, and medical fitness by attaching a current Seafarer's Service Record from the Swedish Transport Agency.
