Job Description

We are looking for a postdoctoral researcher who wants to contribute to the future's sustainable and digitized production systems through research in close collaboration with industry.

The project focuses on the development of digitally activated and automation-ready material flows within warehousing and internal logistics in the pharmaceutical industry. The goal is to improve material visibility, traceability, and information management to create more efficient, resilient, and sustainable production systems.

The position offers a unique opportunity to work at the interface between academia and industry through close collaboration with AstraZeneca. The research involves developing design guidelines for automation-ready production logistics, standardized information flows, and future logistics solutions in real production environments. The role entails conducting empirical research on-site at AstraZeneca in Södertälje, publishing in leading scientific journals, and developing new research initiatives together with a strong research group at KTH and industrial partners.

This position is part of KTH's PROCEED initiative for research activities in Södertälje, which provides a unique opportunity for research collaboration with Traton/Scania and AstraZeneca. To enable close collaboration and cooperation, regular physical presence in Södertälje is included as an important part of the role. The position offers good opportunities to build a strong international network, develop your own research, and contribute to the industry's green transition.

Qualifications

Requirements

• A completed PhD degree or a foreign degree assessed as equivalent to a PhD in industrial engineering, production technology, mechanical engineering, manufacturing, logistics, or a related field. This eligibility requirement must be met no later than when the employment decision is made.
• Publications in peer-reviewed scientific journals relevant to the position.
• Collaborative skills and social competence to develop ideas together and work with industrial and academic partners.
• Ability to perform work at two locations: AstraZeneca's facility in Södertälje and KTH's campus in central Stockholm.

Merits

• At the final application deadline, no more than three years have passed since the PhD degree or an equivalent foreign degree was awarded.
• Experience in qualitative research and industrial collaboration.
• Familiarity with production systems, internal logistics, or warehouse operations.
• Knowledge of MES, WMS, ERP systems, or industrial automation technology is considered a merit.
• Ability to work together and critically reflect on your own work.
• Commitment to and awareness of gender equality, diversity, and equal opportunities.
• Knowledge of Swedish is a merit, as on-site collaboration at the company is strengthened by being able to communicate in Swedish.

About the Employment

The employment is permanent, but for a maximum of two years.

A postdoctoral position is a time-limited qualifying employment with a main focus on research, intended as a first career step after the PhD.
