The Karlstad Pastorate consists of five parishes, a cemetery administration, and a joint administration. Västerstrand Parish is located in the western part of Karlstad and is an exciting parish rich in diversity, with broad and lively activities, singing, creative work, and groups for all ages. In the heart of this area lies Västerstrand Church as a hub connecting the different districts. The team consists of fifteen employees and a number of volunteers. Together, we work for a living church. We are now looking for a church musician (Kantor) who wants to become part of our team!

Job Responsibilities

The work involves playing at, among other things, church services, devotions, and church ceremonies. An important part of the position is to lead and develop the parish's adult choirs. We also celebrate church services continuously at nursing homes where you will be an important part of the team. The detention center is part of the parish, and service there may occur, as well as at services with the Finnish parish, and you will be a natural part of the parish's joint activities. The work is mainly based within Västerstrand Parish, but tasks in other parishes within the pastorate also occur. The working hours are scheduled and include work in the evenings and on weekends.

Qualifications

We are looking for you who are a musician with a church musician degree (Kantor) and who have musical breadth and quality. You are well acquainted with the church's liturgy and worship life and have good pedagogical skills. We expect you to have previous experience leading choirs with singers of different ages. You are expected to have good knowledge of Swedish, as well as the ability to express yourself well both orally and in writing. Great importance is attached to personal suitability.

As a person, in addition to your musical interest, you need to be flexible, have a positive attitude, a pastoral approach, and the ability to work both independently and together with others. You have a good ability to create and maintain good contacts.

A Category B driver's license and access to a private car are required. The values of the Church of Sweden are central to the role of a church musician within the parish; sharing these values and being a member of the Church of Sweden is seen as a matter of course.

Practical Information

We apply regulated working hours and flextime.
