The Strömsholm Canal stretches from Smedjebacken in Dalarna to Borgåsund in Västmanland. The excavated canal is 1.2 miles long, but the entire navigable route is 11 miles long. Using 26 locks, boats are lifted or lowered the 100 meters that separate Lake Barken (Smedjebacken) from Lake Mälaren (Borgåsund). The Canal Company maintains the excavated canal section, manages the marking of the waterway, and also administers the properties associated with the canal. The Strömsholm Canal was inaugurated in 1795 and was declared a building monument in 1990.
We are looking for you who want to help maintain canal banks and lock areas during the summer of 2026. This is an outdoor job along the beautiful Strömsholm Canal. Tasks include clearing brush, felling some trees, and keeping grassy areas mowed. Additionally, there are individual plantings that need care, and in some cases, you may assist with locking boats or canoes through the locks.
