Norrbottensmusiken is an operation within Region Norrbotten. Our mission is to develop, produce, and disseminate professional music throughout the county. Every year, we carry out approximately 450 concerts and workshops, reaching around 36,000 adults and 28,000 children and young people.

We collaborate with municipalities, independent cultural actors, and educational institutions to strengthen competence supply, renewal, and artistic development in the region.

Our activities

  • Norrbotten Big Band operates within jazz and improvisational music.
  • Norrbotten World focuses on music connected to national minorities and the Sámi indigenous people, with the goal of bringing Norrbotten to the world – and welcoming the world to Norrbotten.
  • Norrbotten Chamber Orchestra produces concerts within classical orchestral music.
  • Piteå Chamber Opera highlights topical issues using opera as a tool.
  • Choir Center Nord supports and develops choral life in Norrbotten.
  • Young Norrbottensmusiken gathers our activities for children and young people. This includes school productions, youth ensembles Arctic Youth Jazz Orchestra (AYJO) and Norrbotten Youth Symphony (NUS), the vocal ensemble Arctic Light, as well as initiatives for young organizing through KulturCrew.

For our various activities, we contract approximately 500 freelance musicians annually, making us the largest employer in the music sector in Norrbotten.

With us, you become part of an engaged team working to ensure that music and performing arts reach more people – and mean more – throughout Norrbotten.
