Economist at the Swedish Prison and Probation Service

The Swedish Prison and Probation Service is growing – we are building new facilities, renovating, and expanding, and we are now looking for more employees. Our most important goal is to reduce recidivism – to break the vicious cycle. If we succeed, society will be safer and more secure for everyone. We are the authority responsible for prisons, probation, detention centers, and client transport.

The Finance Department consists of the purchasing unit and the unit for accounting, planning, and follow-up (REPU). REPU, in turn, consists of two sections for financial support (core and support activities), a central accounting function, and national controllers focusing on cross-agency issues such as operational planning, risk analyses, annual reports, and financial forecasts.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Your task is to support the organization in accounting matters. You will work closely with our accounting expert, the Swedish Prison and Probation Service's service center, and the unit's controllers to ensure accurate financial reporting. You will be part of a team consisting of, in addition to yourself, another accounting economist who supports core operations and the accounting expert. You will be part of the Section for Planning and Follow-up Support, support activities together with controllers.

Your work will include conducting various forms of qualified analyses and investigations within the accounting area, participating in monthly and annual closing processes, reporting to the state accounts, continuously analyzing the balance sheet at the agency level, and establishing and documenting the agency's accounting rules.

You will participate in efforts to improve processes and overall routines, provide advice on accounting issues, and conduct training. As an economist, you will participate in audits (both external and internal) and have contact with the Swedish Agency for Public Management regarding changes in the accounting area. You will also be involved in developing a control plan within the accounting area and conducting and documenting controls. You will also have a shared role (with the economist in the other section) in the Finance Department's management object.

We are looking for someone who has:

• A university degree in economics or another education combined with experience that the Swedish Prison and Probation Service deems relevant.
• Several years of recent experience working as an economist with qualified tasks in the accounting area.
• Several years of recent experience interpreting financial regulations and developing written procedures in the area.
• Good ability to express yourself well in spoken and written Swedish.
• Good knowledge of Microsoft Office (e.g., Word and Excel).

It is an advantage if you have:

• Experience from the Swedish Prison and Probation Service or another government authority.
• Good knowledge of the financial system Unit4 ERP.
