As an occupational therapist, you will work with the rehabilitation of individuals who, due to illness or injury, have difficulty managing their daily lives. In habilitation, the mission is to provide individuals with congenital or early-acquired disabilities the best possible functional ability and quality of life.

Occupational therapists work in many different areas within healthcare, such as psychiatry, orthopedics, surgery, geriatrics, habilitation, and primary care. Common tasks include assessing activity ability, training daily activities, compensatory measures such as aids, strategies, adaptations of products or environments, educational measures, and follow-up. Occupational therapy is a licensed profession, and the work is often done in teams with other professionals such as physiotherapists, nurses, and doctors.

To be successful in this profession, you need to be interested in problem-solving, collaboration, and have the ability to create good contact with people.

Study to become an occupational therapist with a study salary in Region Dalarna Job Responsibilities

The Occupational Therapy Program consists of 180 higher education credits, equivalent to 3 years of full-time studies. You can study at Örebro, Linköping, Uppsala, Jönköping, Umeå, Gothenburg, Lund, and Luleå Technical Universities as well as Karolinska Institute. You will have an employment in Region Dalarna at one of the following units; Occupational Therapy and Social Work Unit Falun-Ludvika-Mora with the workplace located in Falun or Habilitation Dalarna with possible locations in Borlänge/Falun, Ludvika, or Mora. You will be on leave from your employment during the semesters and will receive a study salary of 18,000 SEK/month. The study period is both vacation and pension qualifying. During the summer break, you will work in the unit to learn more about the operations and practical work. You will then be employed as a paid assistant and have the opportunity to take a few weeks of vacation leave.

Once you have obtained your occupational therapist license, you will receive a permanent position. You commit to working as an occupational therapist within Region Dalarna for at least as many months as you received a study salary. Placement will be based on the needs of Region Dalarna and your preferences. Please indicate your placement preference in your application.

• You are admitted to the Occupational Therapy Program or have started your education to become an occupational therapist
• You have a genuine interest in rehabilitation/habilitation and a desire to live and work in Dalarna
• Good language skills in Swedish, both spoken and written
• You are attentive, can easily create contact and communicate with people
• You are service-oriented and have good collaboration skills

Your application for a study salary position must be received by Region Dalarna no later than April 15, 2026. Applications can only be accepted via our recruitment system. Attach your high school diploma, CV, and a personal letter describing why you want to train as an occupational therapist and work in Region Dalarna. Indicate if you would like your placement within the Occupational Therapy and Social Work Unit Falun Ludvika Mora or Habilitation Dalarna. Provide at least two employer references in your application. Interviews will be conducted continuously during the application period.
