Environmental Inspector with a focus on contaminated areas

The position is located at the Environmental Protection Unit, one of three units within the Environmental and Building Operations of the Community Planning Administration. We offer you a workplace with knowledgeable, unpretentious, and committed colleagues with broad expertise in our field. You will be an addition to the two inspectors who currently have the same focus.

As a supervisory authority under the Environmental Code, we are a key player for a sustainable Eskilstuna. We work with supervision of environmentally hazardous activities, contaminated areas, and area protection. Eskilstuna was designated by Aktuell Hållbarhet as Sweden's Best Environmental Municipality 2024, and we have a high level of ambition within the Environmental Protection Unit's operations.

RESPONSIBILITIES

As an Environmental Inspector with us, you will work on many different cases of varying size and complexity. The position includes supervision during the exploitation of contaminated areas and land, and to some extent also self-initiated supervision. Waste materials for construction purposes are a significant part. Supervision of other environmentally hazardous activities may also occur.

Examples of tasks include:

• Reviewing investigations, risk assessments, and documentation, handling, and decisions in supervision cases.
• Working to initiate inventory and investigation according to MIFO.
• Updating the County Administrative Board's database, EBH support.
• Planning and conducting site visits.
• Preparing decision-making documents and, if necessary, presenting in the committee.
• Documenting in our case management system Castor.

You will assess and decide independently in your cases. The work is carried out in close collaboration with your colleagues, and together you support each other in arising questions. In your work, you will meet private individuals, entrepreneurs, other departments within the municipality, and the County Administrative Board.

QUALIFICATIONS

We want you to have a university degree with a relevant focus. You have already worked for a few years with cases specifically related to contaminated areas and waste management. A good ability to express yourself in Swedish, both orally and in writing, is a prerequisite for the role. A valid driver's license (B) is required for the position.

You can structure, plan, and drive your own work and enjoy switching between short and longer projects. Your work is characterized by dialogue and responsiveness. You succeed in addressing questions and conveying information, instructions, and decisions clearly. You see the importance of collaboration and will therefore be an asset to our collegial learning.
