Position as Cemetery Worker

Folkungabygden Parish was established in 2014 and has approximately 25,000 members in seven congregations in the municipalities of Mjölby, Boxholm, and Ödeshög in the Diocese of Linköping. The parish's support functions and administration are primarily located in Mjölby, but the congregational work is carried out locally in our five work areas, each led by a parish priest and about ten employees at each location: Mjölby, Boxholm, Ödeshög, Skänninge/Väderstad, and Vifolka/Östra Tollstad.

Each congregation in the parish is characterized by its local traditions and conditions – city, countryside, industrial town, commuter towns, and smaller communities. Together, they strengthen each other. We are enriched with no less than 34 churches/chapels from different eras. Some of the oldest treasures date back to the 12th century, and the newest church space is the parish hall in Boxholm, inaugurated in 2025. The greatest asset is the over 120 employees and all the dedicated volunteers and elected representatives.

The cemetery administration within the parish has a total of 35 cemeteries divided into 6 maintenance districts. The administration also consists of workshops, landscapers, and administrative staff. During the peak season, we have about 50 employees. Our mission includes providing burial sites for everyone in the parish, regardless of religious affiliations or worldviews.

Position as Cemetery Worker

As a cemetery worker, you are expected to perform all tasks related to the cemeteries within the parish. This may include planting, watering, mowing, weeding, and pruning bushes and trees. To perform these tasks, we use several machines, both larger and smaller, and daily maintenance of these is included in the role. We work in teams, but you are also expected to be able to work independently. Duties may include service during burials and handling coffins and urns. Working hours are primarily Monday to Friday between 07:00 and 16:00.

Your Profile

We are looking for a practical person who enjoys working outdoors regardless of the weather. We prefer that you have relevant education and/or experience in green space maintenance. An interest in gardening is a prerequisite for enjoying the tasks. It is an advantage if you are familiar with and skilled in using machinery and hold a B driver's license for manual transmission. The tasks require you to be in good physical shape, and you must be at least 18 years old for this position.

As a person, we see that you are responsible and service-oriented, with a sense of precision. You feel comfortable in the environment that the cemetery represents and have the ability to meet both colleagues and visitors with respect and understanding. You appreciate working both in a team and independently and see it as a given to contribute to a good working environment and positive atmosphere at the workplace.

What We Offer

We offer you a varied and challenging job alongside competent colleagues who care for each other. You will also have the privilege of working among our beautiful green areas and contributing to their beauty throughout the season. In our effort to create workplaces that promote health, we offer wellness grants and professional development training.

The seasons at our cemeteries extend over eight months starting at the end of March, but you will first be offered a five-month employment with the possibility of extension for an additional three months.

We will review applications on an ongoing basis and may fill the positions before the application deadline, so do not hesitate to submit your application.
