Salthamn – season 2026 (with responsibility for season 2027)

Salthamn is looking for an engaged and curious gardener who wants to work closely with an experienced head gardener and develop towards independent responsibility for vegetable cultivation.

During the 2026 season, you will work as an apprentice, side by side with the head gardener. The goal is for you to gradually build up the knowledge and confidence required to manage the cultivation independently during the 2027 season, when the regular head gardener is on parental leave.

This is a unique opportunity for you who want to take a step from a practical/assisting role to real cultivation responsibility in small-scale, quality-driven production.

Salthamn is a small-scale farm on Gotland focusing on high-quality vegetables, artisanal methods, and sustainable agriculture. The cultivation system is based on intensive beds, observation, adaptation to the local conditions, and a strong commitment to details.

Job responsibilities for season 2026 (apprenticeship year)

You will work alongside the head gardener and participate in the entire growing year, including:

Sowing, raising seedlings, and planting out

Maintenance of beds (weeding, watering, covering)

Harvesting and post-harvest work

Planning and follow-up of crops

Daily observation of weather, soil, and crops

The focus is on learning, understanding, and taking responsibility, rather than speed.

Job responsibilities for season 2027 (main responsibility)

In 2027, you are expected to:

Manage the daily maintenance of the crops

Implement sowing and planting plans

Be responsible for harvesting and ongoing prioritization

Communicate regularly with Salthamn regarding needs and decisions

Support and handover will take place during 2026 and before the 2027 season.

Wants to learn deeply and take responsibility over time

Is meticulous, observant, and self-driven

Enjoys physical work outdoors in all weather

Has previous experience in cultivation (internship, education, or work) – an advantage but not a requirement

Personal suitability and attitude are highly valued.
