Summer Interns Wanted at Norran in Skellefteå

Norran covers northern Västerbotten and is now looking for interns for the summer at the editorial office in Skellefteå.

Our vision is to be first with breaking news and to have the best follow-ups, to create journalism that makes an impact and to capture and portray what happens in our coverage area every day.

The Role

We are looking for summer interns for several positions in our editorial team.

Primarily, we are seeking news reporters, both general reporters and reporters/web editors for our department that works with breaking news, as well as sports reporters. We are also looking for editors for letters to the editor/debate/editorials and our English subpage Norran English. There may also be a need for culture/leisure and family department roles.

As a news reporter, you will cover what happens in northern Västerbotten, whether it involves accidents, new businesses, or societal issues. It is your role to meet those involved, find out more, and clarify what has happened. You write, photograph, and film - and publish across all our channels. You will come up with your own ideas about what our subscribers want to know and tell stories in a way that many can understand.

In the role of reporter/web editor, in addition to being a reporter, you will also take shifts as a web editor for norran.se, where you will be at the center of events and ensure that we keep track of what is happening and stay updated on social media.

As a sports reporter at Norran, you will cover both big and small events in the world of sports, including match coverage, news, and features. You write, photograph, and film - and publish across all our channels.

As an editor for letters to the editor/debate/editorials, you are responsible for publishing this material. You have a good editorial eye and can edit texts, respond when appropriate, and have the ability to select editorial material that suits a free-spirited liberal newspaper in northern Västerbotten.

As an editor for Norran English, you will translate articles from Swedish to English and also produce content aimed at the target group of new residents in Skellefteå who do not speak Swedish. Here, excellent knowledge of the English language is required.

As an editor for culture/leisure, you will be responsible for planning and covering cultural and leisure events and have a good understanding of what is happening in the area.

In the role of family editor, you will be responsible for publishing reader-generated content (such as obituaries where you are expected to have a good dialogue with relatives) and this role also includes working as a general reporter or handling opinion material.

We are looking for someone who loves local news/local sports/local culture and leisure and has an interest in social issues and local journalism. You should have a nose for news and be skilled at writing, photographing, and filming with your mobile.

You are quick in news situations but can also delve into difficult questions. You have a personal drive to reach out and be first, you want to deliver every day and are used to a fast pace and quick decisions. You want to engage readers in what you do and are eager to challenge storytelling and test new publishing formats. You also have good knowledge of social media (Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok).

For editorial work, experience in similar roles is required.

About the Employment

Temporary position, 4–9 weeks depending on placement.

Location: Skellefteå.

Salary: Individual salary setting.

Evening and weekend work may occur.

Requirements: Started journalism education or equivalent experience. A driver's license (B) is required.
