Your Responsibilities

At the Trelleborg yard, we work with shunting and sorting of freight wagons. This means that wagons arrive in trains from all over the country and are divided and assembled into new trains to reach our important customers and terminals. The role of a yard worker involves planning and shunting wagons to the correct train and customer. In Trelleborg, we handle wagons that are coming to and from abroad and perform daily shunting on ferries. In addition to the shunting itself, functional checks and brake tests of the wagons are included before they depart for new destinations.

A common goal is to ensure that trains reach customers on time and safely. This requires a high level of commitment from everyone working at the yard.

Who are we looking for?

In the role of supervisor/driver in shunting service, also called yard worker, it is important that you have a strong safety mindset and can easily absorb new instructions. You have the ability to translate theoretical knowledge into practice, enjoy following rules and routines, and understand their significance. You are collaborative and take great personal responsibility for your tasks. Since the work is performed in a safety service, you need to be able to communicate and absorb instructions fluently in Swedish.

To work as a driver in shunting service, you need to meet the following basic requirements:

  • Be at least 20 years old (requirement according to the Swedish Transport Agency to apply for a driver's license)
  • Be able to present an approved diploma from secondary education or equivalent education at SeQF level 4 or higher
  • Have normal color vision
  • Be able to work irregular shifts
  • Be physically and mentally fit for the job
  • Have a B driver's license

To work as a driver in shunting service, it is required that you have a driver's license. According to the Swedish Transport Agency, a complete secondary education with passing grades is required to have your application for a driver's license approved. Worth Knowing

The position is a permanent full-time employment initiated by a 6-month probationary period, with a planned start in week 37. Your employment begins with a paid basic training of 16–18 weeks that prepares you for the job. The training includes theory and practice, ongoing knowledge tests, and concludes with an examination.

About 8–9 weeks of the training period will be at another location, and the remaining time at your home location. Green Cargo covers travel and accommodation for the weeks you have training at another location.

At Green Cargo, we have a tariff salary according to the following salary scale:

  • 21,000 SEK/month – Training salary
  • 28,630 SEK/month - After examination from our basic training
  • 33,685 SEK/month - After two years in the role

The position is physically demanding, and you walk about 15,000–20,000 steps during a shift. All work is done in teams of at least two. Working within Green Cargo's production involves irregular working hours, and the hours vary from week to week. Weekend work occurs 1–2 times a month. You receive your schedule on the 15th of each month with your working hours for the following month. Examples of working hours are:

  • Mon-Thu: 05:30-11:30
  • Friday: off
  • Saturday: 05:30-15:30
  • Sunday: 09:30-19:30
  • Monday: off
  • Tuesday: 13:00-23:00
  • Wednesday: 09:00-17:30
  • Thursday: 13:00-23:00
  • Friday: 12:50-22:40
  • Saturday-Sunday: off

Recruitment Process

The recruitment process begins with you receiving a preliminary selection test via email after you submit your application. A prerequisite for proceeding in the process is that the selection test is completed. After that, interviews, occupational psychological assessments, health examinations including alcohol and drug tests, and reference checks are conducted. All candidates who proceed in the recruitment process undergo a background check. Green Cargo is a drug-free workplace with zero tolerance for drugs. Drug tests are conducted before employment and randomly during employment. With the employment comes an obligation to be placed in a war situation.
