Your Responsibilities

The Department of Control Engineering at the Institute of Systems Engineering is seeking a postdoctoral researcher to work on new numerical methods for motion planning and predictive control under uncertainty for autonomous systems. The research aims to develop improved numerical methods to solve challenging belief-space motion planning problems where uncertainty in the problem is explicitly considered. Specifically, it will investigate how leading sampling-based methods can be integrated with leading methods from numerical optimal control in a theoretically and computationally sound manner. Receding horizon methods will also be examined. The position is funded by the European Office of Aerospace Research and Development (EOARD) and is exclusively research-oriented.

Your Qualifications

To be eligible for the postdoctoral position, you must have a PhD or a foreign degree that is deemed equivalent to a PhD. Your degree must be completed by the time the employment decision is made.

It is advantageous if your degree was completed no more than three years before the application deadline for this position. If there are special reasons, candidates who obtained their PhD earlier may also be considered, for example, due to various types of statutory leave.

The applicant should have strong knowledge in control engineering, optimal control, statistics, and optimization. Good programming skills are also required, especially in Python and C++, and preferably also in ROS. Knowledge of motion planning under uncertainty is desirable. The applicant should have good collaborative skills, the ability to communicate research both orally and in writing, and the ability to work independently.

About the Position

The position is a fixed-term employment for two years with the possibility of extension for a total employment period of no more than three years. The postdoctoral position is full-time.

Start date by agreement.
