Open Positions for Teaching Assistants at the Department of Information Technology

The Department of Information Technology holds a leading position in both research and education at all levels.

We are currently the third largest department at Uppsala University with over 350 employees, including 120 teachers and 120 doctoral students. The Department of Information Technology is now seeking up to 15 teaching assistants for the Introduction to Computers course.

Job Responsibilities

Participation in teaching within the framework of Introduction to Computers, which is part of several program introductory courses in the autumn of 2025. Participation in teaching includes, for example, supervision in computer labs, answering students' questions, and grading assignments. Please note that all supervision is planned to be conducted on campus.

Qualifications

To be employed as a teaching assistant, it is required that you are admitted to undergraduate or graduate education. Employment as a teaching assistant is regulated by the Higher Education Ordinance Chapter 5. The applicant must demonstrate good academic results, particularly in the area of the course they will assist with, as well as very good knowledge of Swedish (only for courses taught in Swedish) and English in both spoken and written form.

Desirable/meritorious qualifications

Previous experience in participating in teaching relevant courses at the university level is particularly meritorious. Experience with relevant IT systems (Studium) is desirable, as well as good knowledge of Uppsala University's organization. Previous experience as a teaching assistant for Introduction to Computers is highly meritorious.

Highly meritorious is also:

  • having completed a significant portion of the first year of your study program.
  • being interested in constructively helping others understand what they perceive as unclear or difficult.
  • having good communication skills in Swedish, both spoken and written.
  • being punctual regarding supervision and grading of submitted assignments.

Application Procedure

The application must include a letter stating which campus you are studying at (Uppsala or Gotland), the applicant's previous experience in teaching, language skills, and knowledge (e.g., study certificates). The application should also indicate how the applicant meets the requirements for the teaching assistant position. A registration certificate must also be attached to the application.

About the Employment

The employment is temporary according to HF Chapter 5 § 12, until November 16, 2025. The extent is 6%. Start date is August 18, 2025, or by agreement. Place of employment: Uppsala.
