Research Position in Autonomous Systems

FOI, the Swedish Defence Research Agency, is one of Europe's leading institutes for applied research in defense and security. FOI is a government agency under the Ministry of Defence, tasked with conducting research, method and technology development, and investigations for total defense, as well as supporting disarmament, non-proliferation, and international security. About the Position

In the role of researcher, you will work in a group with colleagues researching various aspects of autonomous systems. This involves the development of autonomous vehicles focusing on algorithms for mission planning, control, navigation, and vehicle dynamics. The research results and knowledge will be used to provide expert support in the form of documentation for the evaluation and procurement of the Armed Forces' future systems. The purpose of the work is to understand the performance and capabilities of both existing systems and future concepts. The work is based on scientific methods and takes place both in the office and during practical trials.

About the Unit

You will be part of the Autonomy and Model Management unit, which belongs to the Defence Technology department. The unit's mission is to work on the development and analysis of autonomous vehicles. Do you have the competence profile we need?

We are looking for someone who has:

  • Completed a PhD or will soon complete a PhD in systems theory, control engineering, robotics, applied mathematics, or a relevant field that we consider applicable
  • Strong ability to communicate clearly and effectively in both spoken and written Swedish and English

It is advantageous if you have:

  • Knowledge in machine learning and programming
  • Knowledge in the automation of UxVs
  • Ability in algorithm and model development
