Educator for General Course at Fristad Folk High School

Västra Götalandsregionen, the largest folk high school authority in Sweden, manages six folk high schools: Billströmska, Dalsland, Fristad, Grebbestad, Gothenburg, and Vara.

We provide education and popular education through general courses for participants to gain qualifications for higher studies or profile courses where they can deepen their knowledge in a special area. There are about thirty longer courses to choose from. At most of our schools, we also run various projects for people who are outside the labor market. At several of our schools and at the administrative level, we also run various projects in a range of areas. The administration also includes Validation West and the VIA assignment, which is support for individuals who are further from the labor market. We aim to create opportunities for individuals and for society by working for security, participation, and future confidence. Many say that their year at folk high school was the best year of their lives. Folk high schools make a difference and help people find their future.

Fristad Folk High School, with approximately 130 students, offers a general course at the high school level, gardening education, nursing education, weaving courses, and Växa - a course for individuals with disabilities on-site in Fristad. An additional 60 students study general courses, vocational beekeeping, or weaving remotely. The school's boarding facility accommodates about 40 participants. The school also has conference activities. In total, we have just over 40 employees working in teaching and service.

Description and Responsibilities

We are now looking for an educator for the general course who is passionate about education and learning and has the competence to teach Swedish, history, and social studies at the high school level.

The teaching load consists of a group in Swedish level 1 and level 3, history level 1a2, and social studies level 1a1 and 1a2. Mentorship for about 10 participants and contributions to the school's joint work with theme days and graduations are also included.

At the folk high school, teaching occurs in smaller groups of about 15 participants, and the shared learning with conversation as a foundation is central. Together with others, participants increase their knowledge and education for personal development and participation in society. As a teacher, it is important to see, value, and utilize each participant's unique experiences.

This position is a temporary contract due to parental leave.

Qualifications

You have a teaching degree in Swedish with a focus on high school, adult education, or the later years of primary school and sufficient subject knowledge to teach social studies and history, or equivalent qualifications deemed comparable by the employer. We prefer that you have folk high school teacher training.

It is advantageous if you have knowledge of neuropsychiatric disabilities and experience working with individuals who need support in their learning and personal development. Having worked at or attended folk high school yourself is also a plus.
