Career and Guidance Counselor at Centralskolan

Welcome to join our exciting journey. In the fall of 2025, Centralskolan will be transformed from a K-9 school to a 7-9 school with approximately 240 students. The school is centrally located in Tierp, just a stone's throw from the train and bus station. The school area also includes Tallbacksskolan, a K-6 school with about 100 students in Månkarbo.

At our schools, we have competent, dedicated, and solution-focused staff. The student health team in the school area consists of special educators, special teachers, counselors, school nurses, psychologists, and career counselors. Tierp is a municipality with an organization of the right size for those who want close contact with management, colleagues, politics, and clients. JOB DESCRIPTION

As a career and guidance counselor in SO3, you will be part of our student health team, which includes school management, special educators, special teachers, school psychologists, school nurses, and school counselors. You will have the opportunity to work closely with students, staff, and guardians. As a career and guidance counselor in SO3, you are expected to inform, guide, and motivate students regarding future studies and career choices. They should gain the knowledge they need to make well-informed decisions about their future. You will collaborate with teachers and other staff at the school.

Your responsibilities as a career and guidance counselor include:

• Guidance conversations with students. You contribute to providing students with increased knowledge and understanding of themselves, their opportunities, and their choices. This occurs through individual guidance conversations, group activities, and information sessions.
• Information to guardians, e.g., before internships and high school choices.
• Participate in meetings with teachers, students, and guardians.
• Collaborate with teachers on career guidance.
• Support and develop the career guidance work at the school.
• Administer the high school selection process.
• Collaborate with other career counselors in the municipality.

The position of career and guidance counselor is 50%. If you are interested in a full-time position, it can be combined with a role as a student coach. In that role, you will have the following responsibilities:

• You work purposefully to create safety and good relationships with students, as you are present during breaks and lessons.
• You maintain contact with students who need a safe adult to turn to for extra support with structure.
• You will focus on school attendance by ensuring that all students are present in their classes.
• You organize break activities and other group-strengthening activities for students.
• You are attentive to language use and behaviors that contradict the school's core values.
• You participate in conflict management and contribute to increased safety for students.
• You participate in value-based work and work preventively and proactively against harassment.
• You have close collaboration with mentors and the school's counselors.
• You sometimes work in classrooms or with smaller student groups.

QUALIFICATIONS

We are looking for someone who is educated and qualified as a career and guidance counselor. We want you to:

• have the ability to create good relationships with young people and put the student at the center.
• enjoy working in a team and collaborating with others.
• be communicative and express yourself well in both speech and writing.
• have good computer skills.

As a person, you are creative, engaged, and attentive. You work independently and in a structured manner while also having good collaboration skills.

In the combined role, we are looking for someone with the following qualifications:

The personal qualities that are significant for success in the role of student coach are that you are a responsible and trustworthy person. Your approach is outreach and relationship-building towards students. You work to meet each student based on their conditions and have the ability to create good relationships with students, guardians, and colleagues. A certain degree of courage and personal maturity is required to successfully lead conversations about difficult issues with students.

It is desirable that you have experience working with children and young people, as well as experience from working in the school environment. Since you need to collaborate with guardians, other professionals, and external actors, you need to be clear and attentive in your communication. You have an easy time collaborating while also being able to work independently and take your own initiatives. You express yourself well in Swedish in both speech and writing as required in daily work.
