We are looking for an engaged, experienced, and development-oriented lawyer for the newly established role of Chief Legal Officer at Chalmers. We welcome you to take strategic and operational responsibility for the legal expertise within Chalmers. Your legal expertise and consultative approach will be crucial in supporting our vision to become a globally leading technical university contributing to a better world.

About Your Placement

The position is located in the rector's office, where you will play a key role in developing the area to ensure proactive and professional legal support for the entire university. You will report to the head of staff and will also have assignments for the rector and university director.

The unit consists of seven employees, and together you will embark on a development journey to secure future professional support in the legal field for the entire institution. You will support the entire operation based on the needs of education, research, utilization, and university management, as well as requirements from authorities, providing legal expertise for Chalmers' operations.

About the Position

Your responsibilities include working with concrete legal issues and contracts, initiating and driving development work and processes for the legal function towards established goals, and preparing cases for and providing support to Chalmers' management. You will have a development responsibility for the function's overall processes and deliveries, aiming to contribute to quality and legal compliance. We expect you to contribute to the management's strategic and legal decisions, ensuring that operations are conducted in accordance with laws, regulations, and internal guidelines. You will lead and develop Chalmers' legal work and ensure effective management of legal risks. You will also collaborate with and contribute to increased coordination of the group's components.

Another important area of responsibility is to lead the lawyers within the legal function and to develop legal support in accordance with our strategies. This includes developing and implementing legal governing documents and working methods, as well as participating in crisis management.

As Chief Legal Officer, you will also represent Chalmers University of Technology AB in various national and international contexts regarding legal matters.

Qualifications

  • Law degree
  • At least 10 years of experience in legal work
  • Experience in business law, corporate law, and administrative law
  • Ability to identify and manage strategically important legal issues
  • Several years of managerial experience.

Experience in the higher education sector or public sector is an advantage.

You are an experienced and stable leader with good judgment and personal maturity. You have the ability to listen, be receptive, and create good dialogues. You are solution-oriented and work to ensure that stakeholders important to the operation collaborate to achieve set goals. You are communicative with the ability to build trusting relationships at all levels of the organization. You enjoy working both operationally and strategically with a proactive approach. You are distinctly analytical with high problem-solving skills and integrity. You present yourself in a representative manner.

We value a strong commitment to educational and research issues, as well as knowledge and experience regarding the conditions within academic operations.

Employment Type

Permanent full-time position. Final candidates will undergo security screening, including background checks.
