University Lecturer in Mathematics

We are looking for a university lecturer in mathematics for a fixed-term position at the Department of Science and Technology, Örebro University.

Background

The Mathematics Unit at Örebro University is involved in several educational programs, primarily the Mathematics Program, civil and engineering programs, preschool, primary and subject teacher programs, as well as foundation year programs. We also conduct research in mathematics in several areas, mainly computational mathematics, mathematical physics, condensed matter physics, algebra, number theory, and combinatorics, as well as various areas within mathematics education.

Job Responsibilities

As a university lecturer, you will spend most of your working time teaching at all levels, which also includes supervision, examination, course development, planning, and evaluation. Research and related collaboration, development work, administration, and professional development are also included in the working time.

We are now looking for a temporary lecturer whose teaching will primarily involve courses in algebra as well as single and multivariable analysis. The job responsibilities may also include courses in computational mathematics, mathematical statistics, and optimization, or advanced mathematics courses.

Qualifications

To be eligible for appointment as a university lecturer, candidates must have demonstrated pedagogical skills and have obtained a doctoral degree in a relevant subject area for the position or have equivalent scientific competence or other professional skills that are significant in relation to the subject matter of the position and the tasks that will be included in the appointment.

Assessment Criteria

When hiring teachers, both scientific and pedagogical skills are assessed with equal care. The assessment will also consider merits from collaboration with the community that the university is part of, as well as national and international experience and mobility. Teachers must have the ability to inform, collaborate with the surrounding community, and work towards the practical application of the university's research. Additionally, the suitability of the applicant will be assessed, see below.

Scientific Skills

Scientific skills must be demonstrated through independent research efforts and continued scientific publication after obtaining a doctoral degree. Establishment in the research community as well as experience in planning, administration, and management of one's own research will also be given importance.

Pedagogical Skills

At Örebro University, pedagogical skills are summarized in the categories of pedagogical approach, realization of pedagogical approach, and professional development as a teacher. The applicant's pedagogical merits must be documented according to Örebro University's template for pedagogical portfolios and relate clearly to Örebro University's pedagogical foundation.

Pedagogical skills must be demonstrated through varied contributions to education such as planning, implementation, evaluation, and follow-up of teaching as well as supervision and examination. The applicant must be able to articulate their pedagogical starting points and positions, have the ability to reflect on their own pedagogical development and teaching role. Higher education pedagogical training and experience in pedagogical development work are meritorious.

Suitability

Suitability refers to the applicant's personal qualities necessary to fulfill the current job responsibilities, to collaborate with other staff, and to contribute to the development of the organization. Good collaboration skills are a requirement. Other desirable personal qualities include initiative and interest in course development and pedagogical development work.

Other Assessment Criteria

It is meritorious if the applicant has competence and research interests in applied mathematics. The job responsibilities require good communication skills, both written and oral, in Swedish. We place great importance on high attendance and personal responsibility in the work.

Information

The position is 100% for 8-10 months, starting August 15, 2025, or by agreement. Individual salary setting applies.
