About the job

You will work in the Legal Department in the Rail Traffic Legal Unit. The department consists of five units with approximately 100 employees. The department aims to contribute to a uniform application of the law with good legal quality throughout the authority by being guiding and supportive in legal matters as efficiently as possible. We are responsible for governance, coordination, and support of legal issues within the areas of road traffic, rail traffic, shipping, and aviation. Being a lawyer in the department involves close collaboration with investigators, subject matter experts, and other specialist competencies in work related to permits, supervision, and regulation. The work is based on public law issues. The governing regulations in the matters largely stem from EU law and other international regulations.

You will

  • provide legal expert support
  • participate in regulatory work
  • work on the national implementation of international regulations
  • support in international work
  • participate in the processing of requests for changes in laws and regulations
  • represent the authority in court.

You must have

  • a law degree (juris candidate) or equivalent
  • several years of relevant experience as a lawyer within an authority, court, law firm, or similar
  • very good ability to communicate in Swedish, both spoken and written
  • good ability to communicate in English, both spoken and written.

It is meritorious if you also have

  • experience working with EU law or international issues
  • experience working with administrative law issues
  • experience in legislative work or other regulatory work
  • court clerk experience

More information

The employment is a permanent and a fixed-term position with the possibility of extension, located in Borlänge or Kista. The fixed-term employment starts in August 2025 and lasts until June 2026. We normally apply a probationary period. As an employee with us, there is an opportunity to work remotely up to three days a week. The needs of the business and the nature of the tasks will determine whether and to what extent this is possible. An employment with us may involve placement in a security class. A security clearance with a background check according to the Security Protection Act (2018:585) may therefore be conducted. For some of our tasks in security class, Swedish citizenship is required.

About Transportstyrelsen

Number of employees: Approximately 2000.

Areas of operation: Transportstyrelsen works to achieve good accessibility, high quality, safe, and environmentally friendly transportation within rail, aviation, shipping, and road. We develop regulations, issue permits, and monitor compliance. With the help of our registers, we work with fees, permits, and ownership changes.

Locations: We have employees in 12 locations across the country. The majority of the operations are in Borlänge, Norrköping, and Örebro.

The head office is located in Norrköping.

About the Legal Department

The Legal Department consists of five units. The legal units guide and support the authority's various departments in legal matters, and the Registration unit is responsible for registration, reception, and switchboard. We are located in several places. Our main location is Norrköping.

We contribute to a uniform and efficient handling of Transportstyrelsen's need for governance and support in legal matters and in linguistic matters within regulation. We provide governance and support in case management, ad acta and archiving, access card management, visitor reception, and switchboard.
