Workplace Description
The Swedish subjects at Section 1 of the Language and Literature Center include the subjects of the Swedish language, Swedish as a second language, and Swedish as a foreign language.
Within the same section, courses in Nordic languages: Danish and Icelandic are also offered. The section comprises around forty employees and doctoral students. Within the framework of the subject of the Swedish language, in addition to independent courses up to and including the bachelor's level, courses within the Language Consultant Program, Subject Teacher Program, and courses in translation are also offered. The subject of Swedish/Nordic languages is also one of several specializations in the master's program in language and linguistics offered jointly by the language subjects at the Language and Literature Center.

Job Responsibilities and Areas of Responsibility
The advertised position includes teaching and examination within courses in the Swedish language at the basic and advanced levels. Courses within the Subject Teacher Education in Swedish and Swedish as a second language, translation education, and Swedish for students with foreign backgrounds may also be included in the position. The courses included primarily focus on language in use, i.e., courses in text analysis and writing. Teaching in courses in language psychology, sociolinguistics, and scientific methods may also be relevant. Teaching occurs both during the day and in the evening and includes both campus teaching and distance education. The position also includes 20% research. The holder of the position is expected to actively participate in both the teaching and research environment in the Swedish subjects.
Qualifications
Requirements for the position are:
- PhD in Swedish/Nordic languages or equivalent scientific competence.
- Demonstrated pedagogical skill.
- Completed higher education pedagogical training of at least five weeks or equivalent knowledge acquired in another way.
- Ability to teach in Swedish from the first day of employment.
- Documented experience of teaching the Swedish language at university/college.
- As a general eligibility requirement, documented good ability to collaborate, as well as the ability and suitability otherwise required to perform the tasks well.
Assessment Criteria
Subject knowledge relevant to the content of the position and the tasks included. Good pedagogical ability, which means a good ability to conduct and develop teaching and other pedagogical activities at various levels and with varying teaching methods.
Meritorious for the Position:
In descending order:
- Documented experience of teaching courses in text analysis and writing.
- Documented experience of teaching courses in language psychology.
- Documented experience of teaching courses in sociolinguistics.
For this fixed-term employment, exceptions to the requirement for higher education pedagogical training may be considered if justified in light of other qualifications.
The position includes teaching (70%), research (20%), and other time (10%). The vacation generated during the employment must be taken within the employment period.

About the Language and Literature Center
The Language and Literature Center (SOL) is Sweden's largest institution focused on language, linguistics, literary studies, and area studies. SOL offers about 500 independent courses complemented by a growing number of program offerings at the undergraduate and advanced levels. With its 36 subjects and about 30 doctoral programs, SOL forms a solid unit with breadth and depth in education and research and is characterized by both national and international visibility. SOL is led by a board where the head is the chairperson. In addition, there are three deputy heads with specific operational responsibilities. SOL has approximately 300 employees and 8,000 students, of which about a hundred are doctoral students.
