A Job with Room for Growth!
Do you want to work to ensure that all students have the opportunity to reach their full potential in their knowledge development and learn for life? Do you want a leading role in an organization that is growing and developing? Then apply for this position as a special educator/teacher or teaching assistant in the resource track for autism at Ås School.
Welcome to Us!
At Ås School, there are about 500 students. The qualifications are high at the school for both the school and after-school care, and there is a high level of employee engagement that permeates the organization. We work closely together to create holistic solutions for the students. The work is based on the student's potential for development and learning throughout the day. Both teachers and after-school staff work with PAX in the school to promote safety and study focus, and undergo training in language-developing methods.
We are now expanding our operations by starting the resource track for grades 4-9 at Ås School. In the resource track, we welcome students with autism from the entire municipality who need a highly adapted study environment based on their needs. During the school year 25/26, we will have 8-10 students in the groups, who, together with 2-3 teachers and 2-3 teaching assistants, work together to meet their needs.
The Department of Education and Child Care has about 800 employees. The department's operations extend across the entire municipality and include preschool, primary school F-9, adapted primary school, after-school care, food and cleaning services, mother tongue, and library services.
A Day as a Teacher and Teaching Assistant at Ås School
As a teacher and teaching assistant within the resource track, you are flexible and can find new solutions. You are self-sufficient and confident in your leadership and have experience educating students with NPF. You have a desire to collaborate with other educators, student health teams, and guardians. This is particularly important as our students need continuity in their daily lives, and we see lifelong learning as our mission. As a teaching assistant, you also follow the students during their time in after-school care.
The main task is to conduct teaching for students in the resource track. You will be responsible for planning, implementation, documentation, and follow-up of the students' lessons. Collaboration with other staff and home is essential to ensure that students have the opportunity to develop as far as possible. You are part of the resource track team, but collaboration with other staff at the school is a given for us, as the resource track students should be given opportunities to interact with other students to the extent they can.
Your Competence
For the position, you must be a licensed special educator or teacher, or alternatively, a trained teaching assistant.
You have the empathetic ability to understand the students' needs and meet them where they are, as well as to listen, encourage, stimulate, and challenge them to develop further.
To thrive in the role, you see the team as a resource, and it is natural for you to contribute positively to solving common tasks.
Previous experience working with students with autism is an advantage.
