The Linguistics subject at the department is involved in several externally funded interdisciplinary projects.

The current research areas of the subject include historical linguistics and linguistic diversity, language documentation and typology, as well as child language development, language disorders, bilingualism/multilingualism, and second language acquisition.

We are now seeking a colleague specializing in multilingual language acquisition, which includes second language acquisition, child language development, and language contact.

Job Responsibilities

The purpose of the position is to provide the teacher with the opportunity to develop their independence as a researcher and to qualify both scientifically and pedagogically to meet the requirements for eligibility for a position as a university lecturer. The job responsibilities include research in the relevant subject area of 50% and teaching and administration of a maximum of 50%.

Teaching responsibilities include course responsibility, course administration, course development, examination, and supervision at undergraduate and advanced levels, in Swedish and English, on campus. Teaching primarily covers the area of multilingual language acquisition, such as second language acquisition, bilingualism/multilingualism, child language development, and language contact, but also includes teaching in other areas of linguistics (e.g., grammar, phonology, semantics, sociolinguistics, language documentation, typology). In research, the holder is expected to collaborate with and strengthen existing research groups in the subject of linguistics, at the department and at the faculty, such as the faculty-wide network Language & Learning.

As an assistant professor, you are expected to actively apply for external research funding and keep up with developments in your subject area, as well as participate in the faculty's and department's pedagogical and scientific development work.

Eligibility Requirements

Eligible for appointment as an assistant professor is someone who has obtained a doctoral degree or has achieved equivalent scientific competence, demonstrated pedagogical skill, and possesses the personal qualities required to perform the position well. Primarily, applicants who have obtained a doctoral degree or have reached equivalent competence within five years prior to the application deadline will be considered. For this position, a doctoral degree in linguistics or another related field is required.

A prerequisite for pedagogical skill to be considered is completion of relevant higher education pedagogical training, comprising at least five weeks or equivalent knowledge. If there are special reasons, the higher education pedagogical training can be completed during the first two years of employment.

Documented ability to teach in Swedish or English is a requirement. Those who lack the ability to teach in Swedish at the time of employment are expected to develop such ability within two years from the date of employment.

The applicant must possess the personal qualities required to perform the position well. Such personal qualities include flexibility, good collaboration skills, and responsibility.

It is required that the scientific competence, pedagogical skill, and professional competence are relevant to the subject content of the position and the job responsibilities included in the position.

About the Position

The position of assistant professor is a fixed-term appointment and can be held for a maximum of four years with the possibility of promotion to university lecturer (HF 4 kap 12 a §). The extent is full-time. Start date by agreement. Location: Uppsala. The person appointed is expected to have their main employment located at the department in Uppsala.
